Key Highlights

  • Commerce (NASDAQ:CMRC) closed at USD 2.56 on September 8, 2026 and USD 3.38 on October 7, and a published screen shows a one-month gain of 32.55%. The stock jumped 18.46% on September 10.
  • The September 10 operating plan targets at least 20% non-GAAP operating margins from 2027 and an annualized non-GAAP cost reduction of USD 60 million to USD 80 million, with about USD 3 million saved in 2026.
  • The board also authorized a new USD 50 million share repurchase through September 10, 2028, which equals about 18% of the roughly USD 280 million market value, simple arithmetic on two published figures.
  • Commerce (NASDAQ:CMRC) shares fell 31.96% after second quarter results on August 6, 2026, so the one-month rebound partly recovers an earlier drop, and the stock peaked at a USD 3.64 close on September 14.

The Operating Plan

On September 10, 2026 Commerce, the owner of BigCommerce and Feedonomics, announced a strategic operating plan to accelerate profitability and free cash flow. It targets non-GAAP operating margins of at least 20% for full-year 2027 and an annualized reduction in the non-GAAP operating cost base of USD 60 million to USD 80 million, or USD 0.73 to USD 0.97 per diluted share. About USD 3 million of savings are expected in 2026 with the full benefit in 2027. Restructuring and one-time costs are guided to USD 4.2 million to USD 8.8 million in the third quarter and USD 4.3 million to USD 17.5 million in the fourth. On September 29 it launched data enrichment tools for BigCommerce and Feedonomics aimed at agentic commerce, with no financial figures, and shares fell 2.05% that day.

Buyback and Guidance

The board authorized a new USD 50 million repurchase program effective through September 10, 2028. Commerce reaffirmed 2026 Revenue guidance of USD 336.5 million to USD 344.5 million and raised non-GAAP Operating Income guidance by USD 3 million to USD 31.0 million to USD 37.0 million. It also noted about USD 353 million of net operating loss carryforwards that may limit cash taxes as profits grow. The stock closed at USD 3.08 on September 10 on 4.4 million shares, up from USD 2.60 the day before, and reached USD 3.64 on September 14 before drifting between USD 3.11 and USD 3.38. The authorization does not oblige Commerce to repurchase any set amount.

Risks and What to Watch

Second quarter revenue was USD 84.5 million, up just 0.1%, with annual Recurring Revenue of USD 360.5 million, up 2%, and net revenue retention of 95.8%, which means existing customers are shrinking slightly. Free Cash Flow was only USD 0.1 million. Barclays cut its target to USD 2 from USD 3 and Goldman Sachs to USD 5 from USD 5.75, published analyst notes show. The plan delivers savings mostly in 2027, so execution matters. Watch the third quarter report, estimated for November 5, 2026, for restructuring charges and retention. Gross merchandise value grew 14% to USD 8.8 billion, so merchants are selling more through the platform even though subscription revenue is flat.

Where Things Stand

Commerce (NASDAQ:CMRC) rose about 33% in a month because on September 10, 2026 it announced a USD 60 million to USD 80 million cost cut, a 20% margin target and a USD 50 million buyback. The rebound follows a 31.96% drop on August 6, so the stock remains well below where it began the summer. With revenue flat and retention below 100%, profits must come from savings rather than growth. Watch the November report for proof. Commerce (NASDAQ:CMRC) must now show that cost savings reach profit.
