Medicine is being remade at both ends at once. Computation has entered the laboratory, while the physical business of manufacturing and distributing therapies remains large, cash-generative and often priced as though nothing is changing. Kalkine identifies ‘Lab-to-Life’ to be an opportunity area for growth-oriented audiences seeking exposure across the therapeutic value chain, as a general advice only.
Lab-to-Life is a pre-built or ready-made portfolio of selected stocks spanning the full path a therapy travels, reviewed on a regular basis based on specific pre-determined quantitative parameters.
Exposure to a concentrated pool of small, mid, and large capitalization stocks across the therapeutic value chain — from AI-enabled discovery through clinical development, manufacturing, distribution and patient care.
Buy and Hold stocks for a period of up to 3 years or less with mid to high risk, balancing cash-generative manufacturers and distributors against higher-growth digital and platform businesses.
Listed-Equities on NASDAQ/NYSE Stock Exchange Stock Exchange
The goal is to identify companies across the discovery, manufacturing, distribution and care delivery chain which may become leaders or game changers in times to come.
This model portfolio is constructed on the goal of a concentrated, value-chain driven thematic portfolio across six sleeves: AI drug discovery, AI in healthcare delivery and diagnostics, digital health and virtual care, drug distribution and pharmacy technology, API manufacturing and contract development, and established drug manufacturers. Inclusion is driven by strong fundamentals (revenue growth and EBITDA margins), revenue durability, free cash flow conversion, favorable valuation metrics (P/E, EV/EBITDA) and lower leverage ratios and technical parameters (such as RSI, Volumes, Moving Averages). A capped allocation is reserved for pre-commercial discovery platforms, assessed on cash runway, partnership validation and pipeline stage.
Individual with mid-term to long-term (up to 3 years or less) with medium-to-high risk appetite, who can tolerate binary clinical and regulatory outcomes on individual positions.
(AI drug discovery and computational biology, AI in healthcare delivery and diagnostics, digital health and virtual care, digital drug distribution and pharmacy technology, API manufacturing and contract development, established drug manufacturers.)
(NASDAQ/NYSE-listed stocks covering a broad range of market capitalisation above USD 300 million, with minimum share price, trading volume and free float thresholds applied.)
(Financial metrics (Revenue Growth, EBITDA Margin, Free Cash Flow Conversion), leverage metrics (Debt/Equity, Net Debt/EBITDA) and valuation metrics (P/E Ratio, EV/EBITDA, EV/Sales) and technical parameters (including RSI, Volumes, Moving Averages).)
(FDA decision dates, clinical readouts, licensing and partnership announcements, drug pricing policy, reimbursement and PBM developments, patent rulings, news, corporate events and macro-economic changes.)
(For any change in sleeve allocation, or following a material clinical, regulatory or policy event.)

*For stock selection, a set of quantitative criteria have been defined and measured. On the stock screening front, fundamental metrics such as revenue growth, EBITDA margin, free cash flow conversion, Debt to Equity ratio (leverage) and Return on Equity (ROE) growth are looked at over year-on-year and the last 2 years. Pre-commercial discovery platform holdings are exempt from sales-multiple criteria, and are instead measured on cash runway, number and stage of active pharma collaborations, pipeline stage of the lead asset, and share count dilution over the trailing twelve months.
10stocks weighted equally, providing two positions across each of the six sleeves. Few stocks may be held from the pre-commercial discovery platform sleeve

The Lab-to-Life Portfolio is appropriate for an individual with a medium-to-high risk appetite and a time horizon of upto 3 years or less. Market volatility over long period of time may impact returns in short duration. As a concentrated thematic portfolio holding both profitable and loss-making businesses, individual positions are exposed to binary clinical and regulatory outcomes which may result in permanent loss on that position.
Typical Target Audiences for this portfolio may include Individuals having a medium to high risk-taking appetite, who may not be looking for regular income, and who seek healthcare exposure that is neither a speculative biotechnology basket nor a static large-capitalization pharmaceutical allocation.
Periodic depending on the news, events, macro changes, and geopolitical impacts. Specific triggers monitored include FDA decision dates and clinical readouts, drug pricing legislation, reimbursement and PBM reform, payer coverage decisions, patent expiry schedules, capital raises by loss-making holdings, and consolidation activity across the sector.
