GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV) reported an update on December 01, 2025, regarding a nuclear development project in Tennessee. The company said the U.S. Department of Energy granted USD 400 million to the Tennessee Valley Authority. The funds will support continued work on a small modular reactor. The reactor is being developed by GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy. This is a joint venture between GE Vernova and Hitachi.
Federal Funding and Project Timeline
The DoE grant is allocated specifically for the project’s next stages. GE Vernova said the facility remains on track for completion in the early 2030s. If achieved, it could become the first commercial small modular reactor in the U.S. The company said the funds will cover key development activities. The SMR is part of a broader effort to support next-generation nuclear options.
Analyst Reassesses Valuation
Separately, Deutsche Bank issued an updated view on GE Vernova on the same date. Analyst Nicole DeBlase shifted her fair value estimate to USD 769 per share. The previous figure was USD 724. Her rating on the stock remained unchanged. The reassessment followed recent sector updates and the funding news.
Sector Context
The nuclear development space continues to draw attention due to federal energy priorities. The focus has increased under the Trump administration’s broader plans for nuclear expansion in the U.S. Demand for power is also rising. Growth in artificial intelligence systems is one of the factors often cited for higher energy requirements.
Project Significance
The Tennessee project remains a key part of GE Vernova’s nuclear portfolio. The company said earlier that completion of the SMR would mark an important step for commercial deployment. The grant is expected to support stability across upcoming development phases. Work will continue under the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy partnership.
GEV closed at USD 601.58 on December 02, 2025.
