AST SpaceMobile is a company whose valuation depends on building satellites, launching them on time and signing carriers, and this week's analyst moves have focused on the first two. On October 13, 2026, Piper Sandler cut its rating to Neutral from Overweight and lowered its price target to $54 from $98, citing delayed satellite deployments and competition from SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX), according to market data. On October 14, AST SpaceMobile (NASDAQ:ASTS) closed at $42.14, down 10.46% on the day, touching a 52-week low of $42.00 and valuing the company at about $16.4 billion.
A Lower Satellite Forecast
Piper now forecasts only 18 operational satellites by the end of 2026, versus 45 previously, and pushes commercial service into the second half of 2027; this is an analyst projection, not company guidance. The company's own second-quarter release, dated August 10, 2026, reported 13 BlueBird satellites in orbit, revenue of $31.5 million for the quarter, and a net loss of $299.9 million before noncontrolling interest, including a $125.9 million loss on involuntary conversion. It said it was on track for 2026 revenue of $150 million to $200 million and planned beta service this year. Cash and restricted cash stood at about $2.7 billion at June 30, with more than $3.7 billion pro forma after a July $1.15 billion convertible note offering.
A Split Analyst Picture
AST says it has agreements with more than 60 mobile network operators covering over 3 billion subscribers, a potential customer base rather than current revenue. Analyst opinion is split: market data shows a consensus Hold from 13 analysts with an average target of $74.28, while Clear Street reiterated Buy with a $115 target on October 13 and Deutsche Bank upgraded to Buy on October 12. The company joined the Russell 1000 in 2025 according to its own announcement, though current 2026 membership could not be verified.
Confirmed Facts Versus Forecasts
AST SpaceMobile has a large cash balance, a long list of carrier partners and an ambitious production plan, but also a share price that has fallen sharply from a 52-week high of $133.86 to $42.14 as doubts about timing and competition have grown. Confirmed facts, such as launches and cash on hand, may matter more than forecasts in the weeks ahead, with the next quarterly report expected to show how many satellites are actually in orbit.
