Quiet Premarket Dip Follows a Strong Session
Achieve Life Sciences (NASDAQ:ACHV) shares are indicated down 3.03% at $6.72 in premarket, after rising 5.96% to close at $6.93 on Tuesday. No company-specific catalyst was identified for the dip, and the healthcare sector ETF is also softer, down about 0.8%, as investors weigh big-pharma earnings and midterm-election risk.
Achieve is a late-stage specialty pharmaceutical company focused solely on developing and commercializing cytisinicline, a plant-based alkaloid that binds nicotinic acetylcholine receptors to reduce nicotine withdrawal and craving, for smoking and vaping cessation. It has completed two Phase 3 smoking cessation trials and a Phase 2 vaping cessation study, and the FDA has granted cytisinicline Breakthrough Therapy designation and a Commissioner's National Priority Voucher for vaping cessation. CEO Andrew Goldberg leads the company, which is still pre-revenue and unprofitable.
NDA Resubmission Planned for the Fourth Quarter
Achieve plans to resubmit its NDA for smoking cessation in the fourth quarter of 2026 and targets possible approval in the first half of 2027. It named Adare as primary manufacturer after a June complete response letter that cited third-party manufacturing observations and incomplete labeling, not efficacy or safety.
The company also hired Benjamin Halladay, formerly chief financial officer of Esperion (NASDAQ:ESPR), and HC Wainwright reiterated its Buy rating this week.
52-Week ORCA-OL Data Support Longer Treatment
Earlier this month, Achieve presented 52-week results from its ORCA-OL trial. Four-week sustained abstinence reached 31.2% in the final four weeks of treatment among participants who were still smoking or vaping after a prior quit attempt, rising to 39.4% among those who had received placebo in their prior trial.
Abnormal dreams (7.8%), insomnia (6.5%) and headache (3.8%) were the most common treatment-related events, and the independent Data Safety Monitoring Committee identified no new safety signals.
Cash Position and Valuation
Achieve holds roughly $188 million in cash after a $180 million private placement. It has a market cap of $713.11 million and a loss of $1.55 per share, and the 52-week range runs from $2.62 to $8.64.
