A Beat That Did Not Hold After Hours
Atlassian (NASDAQ:TEAM), the Australian-founded maker of Jira, Confluence and other team collaboration software, reported fiscal first-quarter 2027 results after the close on November 5, 2026. Revenue of USD 1.772 billion was about 3.6% above the USD 1.71 billion consensus (calculated), and adjusted earnings per share beat by about 15.4% (calculated). Shares nevertheless dropped sharply in extended trading, with quotes ranging from about 16% to 18% lower depending on the time and provider, so the final level will be set in regular trading. Published headlines showed a jump of more than 30% after its August report, a reminder of how sensitive the shares are to guidance in both directions.
Subscription Growth Outlook Spooks Investors
The selloff centered on the outlook. Subscription annual recurring revenue reached USD 6.812 billion, up 22.5%, but management signaled growth easing to about 18.5% by year-end. Second-quarter revenue guidance of USD 1.825 billion to USD 1.835 billion sits just above the USD 1.82 billion consensus, with cloud growth near 27%. Full-year revenue growth is cited at about 13.75%, up 0.75 points from August, though published summaries do not reconcile that with 24% growth in the first quarter, so treat it as approximate. Remaining performance obligations rose 44% to USD 4.746 billion.
Cash Strength and Software Valuation Risk
Atlassian posted GAAP Net Income of USD 91 million, or USD 0.35 a share, free Cash Flow of USD 463 million and USD 581 million of Buybacks in the quarter. Cloud made up about 73.5% of revenue and Data Center about 22.1% (calculated), while free cash flow was about 26.1% of revenue (calculated). Buybacks exceeded free cash flow by about USD 118 million (calculated). Data Center, the self-managed product, is the slower leg and is being phased toward cloud, which can pressure growth in transition. Cloud growth of 31% in the quarter also compares with about 27% guided for the next quarter, which points to deceleration even in the faster segment. Software stocks also faced a broad selloff on November 5, with the Nasdaq Composite down 5.52%, so after-hours moves in this sector can reverse. No market Capitalization was confirmed.
Where Things Stand
Atlassian (NASDAQ:TEAM) fell about 17% after hours because investors looked past the beat to a slower subscription growth path and a modest second-quarter guide, in a market already fragile. The quarter itself was strong: revenue, earnings, cloud growth, remaining obligations of USD 4.746 billion and cash flow of USD 463 million were all healthy. The debate is how fast the older Data Center Business shrinks, whether cloud can Fill the gap and whether the 18.5% subscription ARR path proves conservative. Watch regular-session trading on November 6, the fiscal second-quarter report, ARR trends, buyback pace and any updates on the full-year growth figure, which published summaries left only partly explained. This is not a forecast.
