Restructuring and Debt Costs Turn the Quarter to a Loss

Adient (NYSE:ADNT), an automotive seating supplier, issued results for its fiscal fourth quarter and full year ended September 30, 2026, on November 4, 2026. Restructuring and Impairment costs were USD 74 million compared with USD 11 million, and selling, general and administrative expenses rose to USD 151 million from USD 124 million. Earnings before interest and taxes fell to USD 44 million from USD 120 million, and net financing charges were USD 62 million. These included USD 10 million of premium paid on repurchased debt, a USD 3 million write-off of financing costs and USD 2 million of Loan modification fees, after the company issued USD 500 million of long-term debt and repaid USD 549 million. A pension gain of USD 16 million partly offset these items.

Where Things Stand

One-time charges explain the loss. Adient (NYSE:ADNT) posted a USD 0.62 GAAP loss per share because restructuring, debt repurchase costs and higher administrative expenses outweighed steady operations, while adjusted earnings of USD 0.52 matched last year. Adjusted figures exclude restructuring costs that also weighed on the prior year, so both views matter. Watch Americas margins, restructuring cash outlays, capital spending and further buybacks.
