Key Highlights
- Mach Natural Resources (NYSE:MNR) paid USD 0.36 for the second quarter, down from USD 0.64. The last four payments sum to about USD 1.80, roughly 17 percent of a USD 10.64 quote, while the latest annualized implies about 13.5 percent.
- BrightSpire Capital (NYSE:BRSP) pays USD 0.16 a quarter, about 16.9 percent of a USD 3.79 quote. Second quarter distributable Earnings of USD 0.12 covered about 75 percent of it, and GAAP showed a loss of USD 0.15 per share.
- Chimera Investment Corporation (NYSE:CIM) pays USD 0.45 a quarter, about 19.6 percent of a USD 9.19 quote. Earnings available for distribution of USD 0.46 covered it by a penny, and GAAP Leverage rose to 5.6 to 1.
- Runway Growth Finance (NASDAQ:RWAY) pays USD 0.33 a quarter, about 20.7 percent of a USD 6.38 quote. Net investment income of USD 0.43 covered it about 1.3 times in the second quarter, after USD 0.29 in the first.
Mach Natural Resources (NYSE:MNR): Variable Payout
Mach Natural Resources (NYSE:MNR) is a limited Partnership whose cash distribution moves with Cash Flow rather than staying fixed. It paid USD 0.36 per common unit for the second quarter, Record Date August 17 and paid August 31, 2026, after USD 0.64 for the first quarter and USD 0.53 for the fourth quarter of 2025. Adding the last four payments gives about USD 1.80, or roughly 17 percent of a USD 10.64 quote, while annualizing only the latest USD 0.36 gives about 13.5 percent (simple arithmetic on published numbers). The third-quarter 2025 figure of about USD 0.27 is inferred from a company statement. Second quarter Operating Cash Flow of USD 154 million less USD 97 million of development costs left about USD 57 million, the pool that funds payouts. The company deferred Mancos completions to 2027 and lowered total production guidance, with output 69 percent natural gas. USD 730 million was drawn on a USD 1.0 billion Credit facility. The risk is that the trailing Yield overstates what a lower payout will deliver. No third quarter declaration date has been announced.
BrightSpire Capital (NYSE:BRSP): Credit Loans, Owned Property
BrightSpire Capital (NYSE:BRSP) is a Commercial Real Estate credit REIT that makes floating rate senior loans funded through securitizations and repurchase lines. The board declared USD 0.16 for the third quarter on September 14, payable October 14 to holders of record September 30, the same amount as a year earlier, so no cut was found in the last 12 months. USD 0.64 over a USD 3.79 quote gives about 16.9 percent (annualized latest Dividend divided by quote). The shares trade near 56 percent of GAAP net Book Value of USD 6.81. Distributable earnings of USD 0.12 covered about 75 percent of the dividend, and owned real estate earns little while management works to redeploy that capital into loans. The Loan book was about USD 2.9 billion, and a USD 960 million CLO was announced on September 21. Third quarter results are listed for October 27. Risks include further credit losses, funding costs and refinancing terms. Coverage could improve if loans replace owned property as an earning asset.
Chimera Investment Corporation (NYSE:CIM): Residential Credit Leverage
Chimera Investment Corporation (NYSE:CIM) invests in residential credit and agency securities with borrowed money and earns the spread between asset yields and financing costs. The board declared USD 0.45 for the third quarter, ex-dividend September 30 and payable October 30, and said it expects to maintain that level through 2026. USD 1.80 over a USD 9.19 quote gives about 19.6 percent (annualized latest dividend divided by quote), with the quote near 52 percent of USD 17.75 book value. Earnings available for distribution of USD 0.46 covered the payout by one penny, while GAAP showed a loss of USD 0.05 per share. Loans were 55.6 percent of the portfolio, agency securities 36.8 percent and non-agency 5.1 percent. GAAP leverage rose to 5.6 to 1 from 5.1 to 1, and recourse leverage to 3.3 to 1 from 2.4 to 1. Spread widening and funding costs are the main risks, since borrowing magnifies losses as well as returns. The next datapoints are the October 30 payment and the third quarter results, whose date was not verified.
Runway Growth Finance (NASDAQ:RWAY): Venture Lender
Runway Growth Finance (NASDAQ:RWAY) is a Business Development Company lending to venture-backed growth companies, and it must distribute at least 90 percent of Taxable Income to keep its tax status. It declared USD 0.33 for the third quarter on August 5, payable August 31. USD 1.32 over a USD 6.38 quote gives about 20.7 percent (annualized latest dividend divided by quote), with the quote near 54 percent of USD 11.91 net asset value. Net investment income of USD 0.43 covered the dividend about 1.3 times in the second quarter, versus USD 0.29 in the first, when it was not fully covered. Core leverage rose to about 136 percent after the SWK purchase, Facility commitments were cut from USD 550 million to USD 425 million, and two borrowers moved to non-accrual. A USD 15 million buyback is in place. Unlike a partnership, its payout is a fixed quarterly amount set by the board, which can change it. The next declaration and third quarter report, whose date was not found, will show whether coverage holds.
Where Things Stand
A 17 to 20 percent yield can come from very different places: a volatile Commodity payout, a loan book with idle property, a leveraged spread and a venture portfolio. Mach Natural Resources (NYSE:MNR) shows the yield most dependent on the trailing window, since the latest payout alone implies about 13.5 percent. BrightSpire Capital (NYSE:BRSP) covered about 75 percent of its payout on distributable earnings. Chimera Investment Corporation (NYSE:CIM) covered it by one penny on its own measure. Runway Growth Finance (NASDAQ:RWAY) was the only one to cover its latest payout by a wide margin. Yields are snapshots, not guarantees. This is informational analysis, not investment advice.
