Air Force Award Lifts Shares but Adds No New Value

IonQ (NYSE:IONQ) shares are trading up 7.04% to $32.93 after the company received a $7.5 million Phase 2 follow-on award from the Air Force Research Laboratory to expand a quantum network in Rome, New York. The award was already counted within the $21.1 million collaboration announced in January 2025, so it adds no new total value. The move also coincides with a broader tech and AI rebound, with the Nasdaq higher and chipmakers leading.

Shares opened at $31.19, traded between $31.07 and $33.31 and are attempting to recover after a roughly 24% drop over the past month, on volume of about 15.62 million shares.

IonQ, headquartered in College Park, Maryland and founded in 2015 by Dr. Christopher Monroe and Dr. Jungsang Kim, is a quantum platform provider delivering integrated solutions across quantum computing, networking, sensing and security. It builds trapped-ion quantum computers, including its current Forte and Forte Enterprise systems and upcoming Tempo systems, and makes them accessible via major cloud platforms as well as through direct sales to commercial, government and research customers.

Dilution and Deal Concerns Drove the October Drop

The drop followed the Elisity all-stock deal and a $2 billion share sale at $40, and a selloff across quantum peers added to the pressure. IonQ has a market cap of $14.14 billion and a loss of $4.66 per share, and the 52-week range runs from $25.89 to $73.65.

Q3 Results on November 5 Are the First to Include SkyWater

IonQ reports third-quarter results on November 5, the first to include SkyWater (NASDAQ:SKYT). Analysts will focus on the $450 million to $460 million revenue outlook and on dilution.

Intel's Classiq Deal Sharpens the Competitive Backdrop

Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) announced an agreement to acquire quantum software firm Classiq, adding to the competitive backdrop in full-stack quantum computing. The net takeaway is that the Air Force award is a modest catalyst, and the November 5 report will test the revenue outlook.
