AI Chip Stocks Come Back Under Pressure
Tower Semiconductor (NASDAQ:TSEM) shares traded down 7.83% to $184.62 as AI-linked chip stocks came back under pressure, giving back part of Monday's bounce. Asian and European chip names also fell, and investors stayed wary of AI financing, high Treasury yields near 5.1% and credit stress at an AI infrastructure provider.
The decline came even after Semtech (NASDAQ:SMTC) expanded a multi-year agreement for dedicated silicon germanium capacity across Tower's U.S., Israeli and Japanese fabs for AI data center optical interconnects. Tower had already fallen about 14.5% last week.
Specialty Foundry Leans on Silicon Photonics for AI Data Centers
Based in Migdal Haemek, Israel, Tower is an independent specialty foundry that makes analog-intensive, mixed-signal chips for fabless companies and integrated device makers. Its technologies include silicon photonics, silicon germanium, power management and image sensors, and it serves more than 300 customers.
Revenue was about $1.57 billion in 2025, and growth is increasingly driven by silicon photonics demand for AI data center optical connectivity, supported by 300mm capacity expansion. The company runs fabs in Israel, the U.S., Japan and Italy.
Shares Trade Well Below Key Moving Averages
Tower has a market capitalization of about $20.83 billion, a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 76.42 and earnings per share of $2.86. The 52-week range runs from $71.64 to $319.94.
Shares sit well below their 50-day and 200-day averages, near $225 and $232. Analyst consensus is Moderate Buy with a target near $316, though underutilization and valuation-compression risks remain.
The November 2 Report Will Test Demand for Silicon Photonics Capacity
Tower reports earnings on November 2. Investors will watch fab utilization, silicon photonics growth and whether new capacity agreements offset pressure on AI-linked chip valuations.
