Earnings Beat Sparks a Relief Rally After a Rough Stretch
RH (NYSE:RH) shares jumped in pre-market trading after the luxury home furnishings retailer reported fiscal second-quarter results that sharply exceeded expectations. Adjusted earnings of $2.70 per share came in far above the $0.46 per share analysts had projected, while revenue of $922.2 million, up 2.6% year over year, edged past the $915.1 million consensus and exceeded the high end of the company's own guidance. Formerly known as Restoration Hardware, RH is a leading luxury home furnishings retailer offering furniture, lighting, textiles and decor through its RH Galleries, Waterworks showrooms and E-commerce platforms.
The rally follows a difficult stretch for the stock, which had fallen roughly 22% over the prior month amid investor concerns about margin pressure, softness in the housing market, and startup costs tied to the company's European expansion and its new RH Estates concept. Thursday's results appear to be driving a relief rally as investors reassess that bearish case heading into the holiday season.
Margin Expansion Exceeds Guidance Even as Growth Accelerates
Normalized adjusted EBITDA margin reached 13.4% in the quarter, exceeding the high end of the company's prior guidance range, while revenue growth accelerated by 4.2 percentage points compared with the first quarter. The company generated $72.3 million in cash during the quarter, which included a $42 million distribution from its Aspen joint ventures and excluded $69.2 million in Tariff refunds. Market Capitalization stood at approximately $2.53 billion following the pre-market move, with a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 17.36.
Cautious Third-Quarter Guidance Tempers the Enthusiasm
Despite the strong quarterly beat, third-quarter revenue guidance of approximately $932.4 million came in below the $967.3 million analysts had modeled, representing expected year-over-year growth of 5% to 6%. Management attributed part of the deceleration to a planned reduction in Backlog and to ramp-up costs of the new RH Estates concept, whose first standalone gallery recently opened in Greenwich. Full-year guidance calls for revenue growth of 5.5% to 7% and an adjusted EBITDA margin between 15% and 16.2%.
RH Estates Concept Seen as a Long-term Growth Driver
Management said the newly launched RH Estates Brand is expected to roughly double the company's total addressable market over time, with international drag projected to shrink from 340 basis points in 2026 to 150 basis points in 2027 and capital expenditures declining from a range of $240 million to $260 million in 2026 to $175 million to $200 million in 2027. Investors will be watching whether the concept's early performance, along with fourth-quarter guidance calling for revenue growth of 16.1% to 21.2%, can sustain the current rally into the holiday shopping season.
