Signet Jewelers Soars on Blowout Earnings Beat
Signet Jewelers (NYSE:SIG) shares are trading up 22.00% today at $100.86, extending the prior session's 21.99% gain to $100.85, after the world's largest retailer of diamond jewelry delivered fiscal second-quarter results that beat estimates across nearly every key metric. Comparable sales rose 2.2%, marking the fifth positive quarter out of the last six, while adjusted EPS growth of over 35-36% was driven by average unit retail growth of 6%, strength in timepieces with near-double-digit growth, and low single-digit bridal growth, partially offset by a 1% fashion decline concentrated in Banter and lower price points.
Signet Jewelers is the world's largest retailer of diamond jewelry, operating approximately 2,600-2,850 stores and kiosks across North America, the United Kingdom, and Ireland under well-recognized banners such as Kay Jewelers, Jared, Zales, Diamonds Direct, James Allen, Blue Nile, Peoples Jewellers, H.Samuel, and Ernest Jones. The company generates Revenue through mall-based and off-mall retail locations, kiosks, and a growing E-commerce presence, serving customers seeking engagement and wedding jewelry, gifts, and personal adornment pieces. Beyond retail, Signet participates in the diamond Supply chain by sourcing rough diamonds and converting them into polished stones through its Other segment.
Credit Partnership Renewal and Blue Nile Card Launch Support Growth
Signet signed a proactive seven-year renewal, through December 2035, of its Credit partnership with Bread Financial, featuring a new profit-sharing structure with no loss-sharing, expected to generate over $1 billion in incremental non-comp revenue and operating income over its life, including approximately $80 million in cash in the third quarter and $200-250 million operating benefit over the next 36 months, partially offset by $30-40 million in non-comp revenue and gross Margin benefit this year against incentive pricing. A Blue Nile credit card is set to launch for the first time this holiday season.
Capital returns are accelerating, with the company announcing a nearly $400 million increase to its share repurchase authorization and a $125 million accelerated share repurchase to launch this month, leaving $575 million remaining after the accelerated program completes. The company has already returned 12% of recent market Capitalization via Buybacks and dividends in the first nine months of the fiscal year, with pro forma free Cash Flow Yield cited at nearly 20%.
Raised Guidance Reflects Confidence Across the Portfolio
Management raised full-year guidance for the second time this year, with same-store sales now expected flat to up 2.5%, low end raised 75 basis points, adjusted operating income of $535-605 million, up roughly 10% at the midpoint, including $30 million in Tariff refunds and $15 million or more in credit deal benefits, and adjusted free cash flow guidance of $300-350 million.
Strategic initiatives include the Love All In campaign relaunch for Kay, redesigned front-end websites for Jared and Kay showing early positive engagement, new Leadership additions including a Zales and Banter president and a Blue Nile president, and a planned new luxury partnership announcement for Blue Nile. Margin guidance reflects flat-to-slightly-up merchandise margin in the second half, with gross margin expansion expected for the full year led by the back half.
What This Means for Investors
Today's rally reflects a genuine inflection in Signet's business, with five positive comp quarters out of the last six, a second consecutive full-year guidance raise, and a newly restructured credit partnership that management expects to generate over $1 billion in value over its life, all pointing to durable rather than one-off improvement. The scale of the EPS beat, over 1,195% above estimates, reflects easy prior-year comparisons and the timing of specific benefits like tariff refunds and credit deal proceeds, so investors should focus more on the underlying comparable sales trend and the raised operating income guidance as the more sustainable signal. With aggressive Capital returns underway and new leadership and luxury partnerships in the pipeline for key banners, the stock's next test will be whether the positive comp momentum can continue into the critical holiday selling season.
