Sibanye Stillwater (NYSE:SBSW) closed at $10.14 on Monday, September 28, down 4.43% from $10.61 on Friday, as a slide in gold and silver hit Mining shares. The South Africa-based group mines platinum group metals and gold, with operations that include the Stillwater mines in Montana.

A Split Metals Tape

Gold had its worst session since June, with December futures down $152.80 to $4,168.40, and spot silver fell about 4.3% to near $61.53 an ounce, according to market data. Platinum, the metal most tied to Sibanye's largest business, was little changed near $1,717 an ounce during the session. Higher yields and a firmer dollar were the main weights on the metals that fell.

That mix shows how Sibanye's shares can move with the whole precious metals complex even when one of its metals holds steady. Nothing dated Monday turned up in company announcements or filings, and the reason for the move has not been publicly identified. Foreign private issuers such as this one report current developments on Form 6-K rather than Form 8-K, so a 6-K or a press release is where any explanation would appear.

First-Half Numbers

For the six months to June 30, 2026, Sibanye reported adjusted EBITDA, a common measure of operating profit, of R31.8 billion, up 111%, on Revenue of R90 billion and net profit of R18.8 billion. Net Debt was about 0.18 times adjusted EBITDA, and the board declared an interim Dividend of R5.7 billion.

Platinum group metal operations produced 831,307 ounces on a four-element basis, meaning platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold, and generated R19.2 billion of EBITDA, while gold operations produced 293,665 ounces, 2% lower than a year earlier, and contributed about R9 billion of EBITDA. Recycling EBITDA rose 11% to R2.7 billion, and the company confirmed its Investment in the Burnstone gold mine.

The Broader Tape

The Dow gave up 347.11 points to 51,481.51, the S&P 500 lost 59.72 points to 7,683.69 and the Nasdaq Composite shed 248.34 points to 26,820.38. Among gold miners, AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE:AU) fell 6.32% and Agnico Eagle (NYSE:AEM) 5.31%. Oil rose after President Trump rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, reviving Inflation worries. West Texas Intermediate settled near $92.60 a barrel and Brent near $105.28.

What to Watch for Sibanye Stillwater

The shares will likely follow the metals, and the metals will follow yields and the dollar. Investors will also watch for production updates and any progress on labor talks at the US operations.

Investors face a run of data this week, starting with JOLTS and consumer confidence on Tuesday, followed by PCE inflation on Wednesday, ISM Manufacturing on Thursday and jobs on Friday. Firm readings could keep pressure on gold and silver, while softer ones could help.
