Simply Good Foods Earnings: Why Is Fiscal 2027 Guidance Pointing to a Steep Sales Decline?
Simply Good Foods (NASDAQ:SMPL) reported fiscal fourth-quarter results on Tuesday, October 27, with net sales of $333.3 million, down 9.7%, and adjusted diluted EPS of $0.44, compared with $0.46 a year earlier. The screened estimate was $0.40, a surprise of 10.97% as screened. The outlook is the harder number: fiscal 2027 net sales are guided down 13% to 17%.
Adjusted EBITDA is guided down 9% to 14% for the year, and down 28% to 33% in the first quarter, when net sales are expected to fall 19% to 22%. The chief executive called fiscal 2027 a challenging but important year in a turnaround, with performance improving as new marketing takes hold, pricing-related volume effects ease and comparisons get easier.
The company sells protein and low-sugar nutrition products under the Quest, Atkins and OWYN brands. The outlook assumes consumer behaviour and prevailing tariff rates stay broadly consistent.

Retail takeaway was down about 8% in total, with Atkins down about 23%, OWYN about 7% and Quest about 2%. The company blamed softer takeaway and velocity-related distribution pressure.
For the full year, net sales were $1,356.5 million, down 6.5%. Quest grew 0.7% to $869.7 million, Atkins fell 20.9% to $332.7 million and OWYN fell 9.7% to $123.8 million on weak velocities.

Fourth-quarter gross profit was $113.3 million, down 10.5%, for a gross margin of 34.0% against 34.3%. Higher input costs and restructuring charges pressured margin, while general and administrative expense fell 24.8% to $30.6 million.
Adjusted EBITDA was $57.5 million, down 13.2% from $66.2 million. GAAP net income was $30.5 million, against a loss of $12.4 million.
The full-year result was a GAAP net loss of $155.9 million, or $1.69 per diluted share, after a $331.0 million non-cash impairment of goodwill and the Atkins and OWYN brand intangibles. Full-year Adjusted EBITDA was $225.9 million, down 18.8%.
Cash, Debt and Gross Margin Recovery: What Should Be Watched After the Fiscal 2027 Reset?
Operating cash flow was $181.0 million against $178.5 million. Year-end cash was $138.4 million, the term loan principal was $350.0 million, and net debt was $211.6 million, or 0.9 times Adjusted EBITDA. Share repurchases totalled $213.3 million, up from $50.9 million.
Fiscal 2027 guidance also includes a GAAP gross margin gain of 250 to 300 basis points and net interest expense of $18 million to $20 million. Part of the margin recovery will be reinvested in marketing.
Next checkpoints are the first-quarter results, where guidance sets a deep trough, and signs that Atkins and OWYN takeaway stabilises.
