Critical Metals (NASDAQ:CRML): a Greenland rare earth developer with no revenue
Critical Metals (NASDAQ:CRML) is not a precious metals producer. It is a development-stage company whose main asset is the Tanbreez rare earth deposit in Greenland, alongside the Wolfsberg lithium project in Austria. Rare earths are used in magnets and electronics, so the stock responds to critical minerals policy, supply chain security and financing news, and its link to gold is limited to risk sentiment. Investors often group it with metals stocks because of its sector tag. In a January 2026 business update, management described near-term spending of about USD 40 million to USD 50 million over 12 to 18 months for the mine and concentrator, with about USD 10 million committed to pilot plant laboratories. Full Greenland infrastructure and input costs were put at USD 400 million to USD 600 million for 100,000 to 150,000 tons of concentrate under the current license. Refineries in Europe and Saudi Arabia were estimated at roughly EUR 1 billion to EUR 1.2 billion each and expected to be externally funded. A lithium offtake with BMW includes a USD 15 million prepayment. The company reports no revenue and a loss of USD 1.87 per share, so every stage depends on outside capital.
Perpetua Resources (NASDAQ:PPTA): a gold and antimony project and a USD 2.9 billion loan
For Perpetua Resources (NASDAQ:PPTA), a pre-production developer of the Stibnite gold and antimony project in Idaho, daily moves track financing news more than the metal. The company said critical-path construction for the 2026 field season began on May 30, and final investment decision is expected in the second half of 2026. Net loss for the first half was USD 146.2 million versus USD 14.2 million a year earlier, mostly higher pre-development spending. The Export-Import Bank loan of USD 2.9 billion is the main funding source, about 1.4 times the current market capitalization, simple arithmetic. The company also bought put options at a USD 3,000 strike on up to 158,016 ounces in 2031. The puts keep full exposure to gold above that level and limit the downside, and they are not a guaranteed price. A restricted cash balance of USD 60.9 million sits alongside the USD 574.2 million of unrestricted cash. Gold at USD 4,028 leaves the puts out of the money, which means the premium is a cost and not yet a benefit. Premium payments were made in July and August 2026. Idaho issued its modified Clean Water Act certification on April 10, 2026, a federal court denied a preliminary injunction on May 29, and the Ninth Circuit denied an emergency stay on June 17, though the appeal remains pending.
Idaho Strategic Resources (NYSEAMERICAN:IDR): a gold producer with an early rare earth option
For Idaho Strategic Resources (NYSEAMERICAN:IDR), the quarter ended June 30, 2026 produced gross profit of USD 6,031,728, up 10.15%, and EPS of USD 0.23, up 15%. A wildfire shut the New Jersey mill from about June 16 to June 24, though some of the lost time was recovered before quarter end. The share price multiple is about 6.9 times annualized second-quarter revenue, simple arithmetic, a premium that reflects growth plans and rare earth interest. Gold production of 3,047 ounces included in-process ore stockpile inventory. At Golden Chest the company completed a record 384 metres of development, received a permit for a new tailings storage facility and is building a new mill. Management has not given formal financial guidance in the release, and it does not mention dividends or antimony. The rare earth work is early stage and may not lead to production, but it widens the story beyond gold prices. Revenue grew 13.25% while net income grew 31.95%, which shows operating leverage to the higher realized price. Costs are the main sensitivity, as AISC of USD 2,261.81 per ounce rose faster than revenue.
Hecla Mining (NYSE:HL): a silver producer with no senior debt
For Hecla Mining (NYSE:HL), second-quarter revenue was USD 333.9 million, down 19% from USD 411.4 million in the first quarter on lower silver and gold prices and shipment timing at Greens Creek. Income from continuing operations was USD 117.9 million, or USD 0.18 per share. Silver production of 4.21 million ounces came from Greens Creek at 2.05 million, a record Lucky Friday at 1.53 million and Keno Hill at 0.63 million. Realized gold was USD 4,256 per ounce, down from USD 4,899 in the first quarter. Silver cash cost after by-product credits was negative USD 8.10 per ounce and AISC was USD 6.07 per ounce, excluding Keno Hill, helped by gold and zinc credits. Free cash flow was USD 135.8 million on operating cash flow of USD 174.9 million. The redemption of USD 263 million of notes left the company debt-free apart from about USD 12.7 million of finance leases, with a USD 75 million undrawn accordion option on the revolver. With 2026 silver guidance of 15.1 million to 16.1 million ounces, each USD 1 per ounce move is worth about USD 15.6 million at the midpoint, simple arithmetic, before by-product credit effects and taxes.
Where Things Stand
The answer is that rare earths, antimony and silver each follow their own drivers, so these four are not simple gold proxies. Critical Metals (NASDAQ:CRML) is a pre-revenue rare earth developer. Perpetua Resources (NASDAQ:PPTA) depends on a loan and a decision. Idaho Strategic Resources (NYSEAMERICAN:IDR) pairs gold cash flow with an early option. Hecla Mining (NYSE:HL) is a silver producer with a clean balance sheet. Next filings from Critical Metals (NASDAQ:CRML) will add detail. Fresh disclosure from Perpetua Resources (NASDAQ:PPTA) is the next test. Official notices from Idaho Strategic Resources (NYSEAMERICAN:IDR) remain the best guide. Further company updates from Hecla Mining (NYSE:HL) are awaited.
