- It is down 3.09% over four weeks and 25.66% over 12 months, according to Trading Economics.

Bitcoin fell back to about $81,800 on Thursday after failing to hold a brief rally toward $85,000, as a deep selloff in artificial-intelligence stocks and a continued rise in oil prices hit risk appetite across markets.
The largest Cryptocurrency traded at $81,783, down $2,227, or 2.65%, from the previous session, according to Trading Economics. It has lost 3.09% over the past four weeks and 25.66% over the past 12 months. It stayed in the tight range of recent weeks, as a third-quarter rally largely ran out of steam in October, Investing.com reported.
An Overnight Rally That Didn’t Last
Bitcoin rose to nearly $85,000 in overnight trading, helped by continued inflows into spot exchange-traded funds, then reversed as technology stocks sold off in Asia and Europe after mixed Earnings from some of Wall Street’s largest tech companies. Investing.com attributed the rout to rising concern about higher interest rates and the long-term sustainability of AI spending.
ETF Demand remains a support. Spot Bitcoin ETFs drew about $1.08 billion of inflows, including $665.2 million into BlackRock Inc.’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (NASDAQ: IBIT), according to Cointribune, offsetting outflows at Fidelity and Grayscale. Even so, that was not enough to carry the price sustainably above $85,000.
Trading With Stocks
Bitcoin has behaved less like a haven and more like a technology stock in recent sessions. A reported 24-hour correlation of 0.78 with the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust suggests the two moved closely, although the figure depends on methodology and does not establish causation, ETHNews noted. Nasdaq 100 futures were down about 1.6%.
Crypto-linked equities such as Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ: COIN) and Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ: MSTR) tend to be sensitive to the same swings, though no moves in those shares are reported here.
Rates and Oil
The macro picture is not friendly to risk assets. Oil is rising on the Middle East conflict, with Brent near $112 a barrel, and that has kept Inflation high. The Federal Reserve is expected to hold rates on Oct. 28, but markets price about a 90% chance of a hike in December, according to CME’s FedWatch tool. The 10-year Treasury Yield has been near 5.1%, a multi-decade high, which raises the Opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets.
Policy Progress
There was some regulatory good news. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency finalized regulations implementing the GENIUS Act on stablecoins on Oct. 21, though the banking industry criticized the treatment of Stablecoin rewards, ETHNews reported. The rules have not been enough to offset the risk-off tone.
Forecasts
Trading Economics’ models forecast Bitcoin at $83,259 by the end of this quarter and $91,589 in one year, based on its macro models and analyst expectations. Such projections have limited predictive value in a market that has fallen about a quarter over 12 months.
What to Watch
Traders are watching the $82,000 to $82,500 area, which buyers have defended, and the $85,000 to $86,000 region that has capped rallies. Other catalysts include ETF flow data, the Fed meeting on Oct. 27-28, further moves in oil, and whether AI stocks stabilize. A break below $81,000, a level briefly breached over the weekend, would test the range.
