Third Quarter 2026 Results

Net income was $1,323 million, against $1,080 million a year earlier. Total revenues were $7,220 million, against $6,946 million. Income tax expense was $321 million, against $222 million.

The company said the increase in net income available to common stockholders was primarily from a higher property and casualty underwriting gain of $382 million before tax, including a $497 million before tax benefit from the commutation of the A&E ADC, and by higher net investment income of $95 million before tax. These were partly offset by higher disability and group life loss ratios in Employee Benefits and greater net realized losses of $99 million before tax.

Core earnings, a non-GAAP measure, were $956 million, compared with $1,022 million. The Business Insurance combined ratio was 91.3, compared with 88.8.
