Earnings Beat Estimates
State Street’s $3.65 EPS for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, surpassed the $3.36 consensus estimate, marking a 68% year-over-year increase. The outperformance was driven by a combination of higher fee revenue, which climbed 17% to $3.188 billion, and a 18% rise in net interest income to $860 million. Total revenue of $4.048 billion reflected broad-based growth across servicing fees, management fees, and foreign exchange trading services.
The company’s pre-tax margin expanded to 34.3%, up 8.5 percentage points from the prior year, while return on tangible common equity (ROTCE) surged to 25.5%.
Record Revenue and Asset Growth
The quarter’s financial highlights included record assets under custody and administration (AUC/A) of $57.9 trillion, an 18% year-over-year increase, and assets under management (AUM) of $6.3 trillion, up 23%. Servicing fees reached $1.468 billion, a 13% annual gain, supported by $384 billion in new AUC/A wins, primarily from asset managers and alternative investments. Management fees jumped 29% to $772 million, fueled by higher market levels and $114 billion in net inflows.
Foreign exchange trading services revenue climbed 26% to $494 million, reflecting a 25% increase in client trading volumes, particularly in Asia-Pacific.
Shares Rally on Strong Fundamentals
State Street’s stock, up 45.2% year-to-date and 11.9% over the past month, extended its rally following the earnings release. The company’s market capitalization now stands at $51.6 billion, with shares trading near the top of their 52-week range of $104.64 to $192.51. The 10% dividend increase, announced alongside the stress test results, underscores management’s confidence in the franchise’s resilience.
Chief Executive Ron O’Hanley highlighted the company’s “scaled global franchises” and “technology- and AI-enabled transformation” as key drivers of sustainable growth, while also pointing to new medium-term financial targets.
Next Catalyst: Medium-Term Targets
Investors will focus on State Street’s upcoming investor day, where management is expected to outline its medium-term financial targets in greater detail. The company’s ability to maintain its operating leverage, 1,226 basis points in the quarter, and expand its digital asset capabilities, including a new tokenized fund servicing platform in Luxembourg, will be critical. With $335 million in servicing fee revenue still to be installed and $2.9 trillion in AUC/A slated for future implementation, the pipeline remains strong.
The next dividend payment, reflecting the 10% increase, will also be closely watched as a signal of ongoing capital return strength.
