Simply Good Foods (NASDAQ:SMPL) reported fiscal fourth quarter and full-year 2026 results on Tuesday, with the fiscal year ended Aug. 29. Fourth quarter net sales were USD 333.3 million, down 9.7%, which management attributed to softer retail takeaway and distribution pressure tied to velocity. GAAP gross margin was 34%, down 30 basis points on higher input costs despite productivity actions. Adjusted EBITDA was USD 57.5 million, down 13.2%, and adjusted diluted EPS was USD 0.44 compared with USD 0.46.

Total retail takeaway fell 8.4%. Quest declined 2.1%, though its salty snacks segment grew about 13% on new flavors, and household penetration rose 50 basis points to 20.2%. Fiscal 2027 Guidance

Management implemented double-digit price increases in September 2026 to restore gross margins toward historic levels near 40%. It guided fiscal 2027 net sales down 13% to 17%, reflecting volume effects from the price increases and distribution losses, and first quarter net sales down 19% to 22%, which management described as the most challenging quarter. GAAP gross margin is guided to rise 250 to 300 basis points on pricing, productivity and lower one-time costs.

Adjusted EBITDA is guided down 9% to 14% because management is reinvesting margin recovery into marketing, which rises about 90 basis points toward a target of 10% of net sales. Capital expenditures are guided to USD 15 million to USD 20 million and interest expense to USD 18 million to USD 20 million. The remaining 60% of an USD 8 million annualized cost reduction initiative is slated for fiscal 2027.

Risk Disclosure

The annual report lists risks including changing consumer preferences, reliance on a limited number of retailers with contracts that carry no minimum purchase commitments, ingredient and packaging cost volatility, supply chain and tariff pressure, integration of the OWYN acquisition, and indebtedness. It also states that no dividends are anticipated in the foreseeable future. A company executive described the pricing actions as creating a meaningful near-term volume headwind, with the first half of the year challenging.
