Margin Expansion Offsets Credit Provision

Provident Financial Holdings (NASDAQ:PROV), the holding company for Provident Savings Bank, reported results for its first quarter of fiscal 2027, the period ended Sept. 30, on Tuesday. Net income was USD 1.57 million, or USD 0.25 per diluted share, compared with USD 2.18 million, or USD 0.35, in the prior quarter and USD 1.68 million, or USD 0.25, a year earlier.

The sequential decline reflected a USD 777 thousand provision for credit losses, in contrast to a USD 95 thousand recovery, and a USD 479 thousand decrease in non-interest income, partly offset by a USD 459 thousand rise in net interest income and a USD 130 thousand drop in non-interest expenses.
