Net loss widens slightly while per-share loss narrows
Atomera (NASDAQ:ATOM), a Los Gatos, California semiconductor materials and technology licensing company, announced third quarter 2026 results on October 29, 2026. The company incurred a net loss of $6.0 million, or $0.15 per basic and diluted share, compared with a net loss of $5.6 million, or $0.17, in the third quarter of 2025.
Adjusted EBITDA, a non-GAAP measure that removes interest, depreciation, amortization and stock-based compensation, was a loss of $4.6 million versus a loss of $4.4 million.
The per-share loss narrowed even as the dollar loss grew because more shares were outstanding. On a calculated basis, the loss per share implies roughly 40 million weighted shares this year against about 33 million last year. Total shares outstanding were 39.1 million at September 30, 2026.
Cash position strengthens to $34.8 million
The company held $34.8 million in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments at September 30, 2026, compared with $19.2 million at December 31, 2025. That is an increase of $15.6 million on a calculated basis over nine months.
The company's safe harbor language notes that it has recognized only minimal engineering services and licensing revenues to date and that it may need to raise Capital as and when required to pursue development and commercialization of its technology.
Atomera describes itself as an early-stage enterprise whose model depends on licensees and joint development customers moving on to royalty-based Manufacturing and distribution licenses.
Gate-all-around engagements reach three customers
CEO Scott Bibaud said the quarter expanded customer engagements in advanced logic and memory, where artificial intelligence continues to drive Demand for higher transistor performance. The company's nano-scale diffusion blocking work for gate-all-around transistors has drawn interest from gate-all-around foundries and from designers of next-generation memory.
The company also demonstrated what it called a simpler, lower cost approach to enable next-generation DRAM transistors using its Mears Silicon Technology, known as MST. MST is designed to increase performance and power efficiency in transistors and can be implemented using equipment already deployed in semiconductor fabrication plants.
Mr. Bibaud said work in the company's traditional Business is taking off.
IQE agreement opens a GaN-on-silicon path
Atomera signed a joint development agreement with IQE, a supplier of compound semiconductor wafers, to bring what it described as high-performance, cost-effective RF gallium nitride technology to market. Mr. Bibaud called it an important step toward commercializing the company's GaN-on-silicon solutions.
The company hosted a live video webinar on October 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time to discuss results and progress.
Key items to watch are whether the three gate-all-around engagements advance to license agreements, how the IQE joint development agreement progresses, and how the company funds operations given a quarterly net loss of $6.0 million.
The release reports adjusted EBITDA in a reconciliation table, which removes interest, depreciation, amortization and stock-based compensation from the net loss. Atomera licenses its technology rather than manufacturing chips, so progress depends on partners adopting MST in their own production processes.
