Bicycle Therapeutics (NASDAQ:BCYC) reported third quarter 2026 collaboration revenue of USD 34.06 million, above the consensus estimate of USD 12.22 million and up from USD 11.73 million in the prior year period. The net loss per share was USD 0.15 on a GAAP basis, narrower than the consensus estimate of a loss of USD 0.40 and well below the USD 0.85 loss recorded a year earlier. Net loss for the quarter was USD 10.5 million compared with USD 59.1 million, and loss from operations shrank to USD 13.5 million from USD 65.6 million.
One Time Bayer Recognition Drives the Revenue Line
The revenue increase of USD 22.3 million came mainly from USD 33.0 million of added revenue tied to the Bayer collaboration, which was recognized in full after Bayer gave notice of termination in July 2026, effective in September 2026. That gain was partly offset by lower revenue of USD 6.5 million from Genentech and USD 2.2 million from Novartis, whose agreements ended in August 2025 and February 2026, and by USD 2.0 million less from Ionis because of a milestone booked in the third quarter of 2025. Over nine months, collaboration revenue was USD 35.57 million versus USD 24.63 million.
Operating costs fell sharply. Research and development expense dropped by USD 25.0 million to USD 33.4 million, led by a USD 17.3 million decline in spending on zelenectide pevedotin after the Duravelo-2 trial finished enrolling and the program was deprioritized for internal development. Employee and contractor costs declined USD 5.9 million following workforce reductions announced in August 2025 and March 2026. General and administrative expense fell 25% to USD 14.1 million.
Cash Position and Stated Outlook Factors
Cash and cash equivalents were USD 469.9 million at September 30, 2026. Net cash used in operating activities over nine months was USD 155.8 million, compared with USD 230.3 million in the same period of 2025. Management stated that existing cash covers operating and capital spending needs for at least 12 months from the report date, while noting that estimates rest on assumptions that could prove wrong.
The company stated that revenue is projected to decrease in the near term because the Bayer, Novartis and Genentech agreements have all terminated. It also said research and development and general and administrative expenses are projected to decline in the near term from cost savings and the March 2026 strategic reprioritization, which cut about 30% of the workforce. Severance charges of USD 5.8 million were recognized in the first nine months, against total charges of approximately USD 6.1 million projected for the program.
Data Points Behind the Next Report
Revenue sits at the center of the comparison, since the USD 34.06 million figure included a one time catch up from Bayer, and the company points to lower collaboration revenue in the near term. Operating expense is the second item, with research and development at USD 33.4 million and general and administrative at USD 14.1 million for the quarter.
Cash is the third reference point: USD 469.9 million at quarter end after nine month operating cash use of USD 155.8 million. Pipeline spending provides the fourth, including USD 10.2 million on zelenectide pevedotin, USD 2.1 million on nuzefatide pevedotin and USD 0.8 million on BT1702 in the quarter, alongside next steps for Duravelo-2 under evaluation after preliminary regulatory feedback.
