Oklo (NYSE:OKLO) was among the sharper gainers in the Russell 1000 on Tuesday, October 6, as a broad rally swept through nuclear power and advanced-reactor stocks. One source put Oklo at $38.81 during the session, tying the jump to the read-through from Constellation Energy's (NASDAQ:CEG) newly announced agreement with Alphabet's Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL).

Oklo had no company-specific announcement of its own. The move reflected a sector-wide repricing as investors concluded, once again, that the largest technology companies want long-term access to carbon-free, always-on electricity for AI data centers, and that nuclear developers stand to benefit.

The Trigger: Constellation and Google

Constellation signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Google covering 3,590 megawatts in total, including 890 megawatts of new capacity from uprates at 11 existing reactors in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey and about 2,700 megawatts from existing plants. Constellation will invest more than $4.3 billion, with the first uprates due by 2028. The deal came less than a week after Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) signed for 690 megawatts with the same company.

Constellation chief executive Joe Dominguez said the collaboration could serve as a model for how technology companies and the energy industry work together to responsibly develop the digital economy.

Why Small Reactors Moved Too

Oklo is developing compact advanced fission power plants, which it calls powerhouses, designed to supply power directly to customers such as data centers and industrial sites. As a developer of new reactor designs, its valuation rests largely on expectations about future Demand and the pace of regulatory approvals. That makes the stock especially sensitive to signals that big buyers are prepared to commit to nuclear power over decades, and Tuesday delivered exactly that kind of signal from one of the world's largest data-center operators.

Oklo had plenty of company. NANO Nuclear Energy (NASDAQ:NNE) rose to $16.79 and NuScale Power (NYSE:SMR) climbed to $8.20, while uranium-focused Exchange-traded funds also gained. X-Energy (NASDAQ:XE) rose, and Centrus Energy (NYSE:LEU), a supplier of enriched uranium, popped. BWX Technologies (NYSE:BWXT) climbed after its BANR microreactor was selected for a transportable nuclear plant project in Canada targeted for deployment by the early 2030s.

Record Highs Elsewhere

The nuclear rally helped push utilities to the top of the sector leaderboard. The S&P 500 gained 44.98 points to a record 7,818.93, the Nasdaq Composite closed at a record just under 27,600, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 253.38 points to 51,521.28. The Russell 1000, which tracks the bulk of US large and mid-sized stocks, followed the large-cap indexes higher, while the small-cap Russell 2000 fell to about 2,830. Treasury yields eased, with the 10-year ending near 5.28, and the VIX dipped to about 15.

Firm Orders Will Be the Real Test

For Oklo and its peers, the key question is whether enthusiasm around existing-reactor deals like Constellation's translates into firm orders for new, smaller designs. Investors will watch for regulatory milestones, customer agreements and any further big-tech power announcements.
