Supply Chain Expansion Plans

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) shares rose 1.82% pre-market today to $220.40, up $3.93 from the prior close of $216.47. At GTC Berlin, the company announced plans with supply chain partners to expand manufacturing capacity for its accelerated computing and AI factory platform. Its chief executive said capacity is the constraint.

Nvidia plans to increase substrate capacity 2.5x over three years. IBIDEN is backed by a multibillion-dollar capacity reservation advance for its Ono Plant in Japan, targeting 3x capacity, while Samsung Electro-Mechanics is joining the substrate supply chain and Unimicron is expanding in Taiwan, with full capacity by mid-2028. Amkor (NASDAQ:AMKR) targets a more than 300% increase in interposer wafer capacity in South Korea by the end of 2028.

Total semiconductor testing capacity is expected to double from 2026 to 2027. A $1.1 billion capacity reservation advance to KYEC will support new U.S. testing facilities, with high-volume production targeted for April 2027, and Singapore testing is set to begin high-volume production in February 2027. SPIL plans to raise optical-engine capacity for co-packaged optics 15x by mid-2027, with another doubling targeted by the end of 2028.

DSX Pod Puts AI Racks in a Shipping Container

The DSX Pod AI Factory puts seven Vera Rubin AI racks into a container-sized unit that weighs about 28,000 kilograms and can travel by truck, with cabling and liquid cooling assembled at the factory. Nvidia says it cuts the time for a new AI data center to start serving tokens from six months to 14 days.

It is a reference design that will ship from manufacturing partners including Foxconn, Gigabyte, Lenovo, HPE (NYSE:HPE), Quanta and Pegatron, with deliveries expected in early 2027. No price was announced, though analysts say a single Vera Rubin rack can cost more than $7 million. Nvidia's chief executive said what the company offers per gigawatt of data center capacity has risen from about $18 billion to more than $40 billion.

AI Trade Backdrop and Valuation
