Universal Vapor Jet Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Universal Display Corporation (NASDAQ:OLED), has officially opened its global headquarters and research and development center at Mapletree Hi-Tech Park @ Kallang Way, Singapore.
The 8,000-square-foot facility integrates the company’s headquarters, modern R&D laboratories, and prototype manufacturing space. It will focus on developing and commercializing Universal Vapor Jet Printing, a proprietary dry, solvent-free thin-film deposition technology aimed at improving manufacturing efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Over the next five years, UVJC intends to invest SGD 50 million (approximately USD 39 million) in research equipment, technology infrastructure, and workforce expansion to accelerate innovation and commercialization.
Strengthening Singapore’s Advanced Manufacturing Sector
UVJC’s Singapore establishment will generate high-skilled jobs across engineering, technology, and strategic functions, including roles for process, product, and software engineers. Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board, the initiative aligns with Singapore’s broader objective to enhance its position as a center for innovation and precision manufacturing.
“At UVJC, we’re not just building equipment, we’re building the foundation for the next generation of clean manufacturing,” said Chandran Nair, CEO of UVJC. “Our platform can print materials with micro precision, without solvents or masks, and is poised to open new possibilities across semiconductors, displays, life sciences, and clean energy.”
Expanding Deep-Tech Collaboration with A*STAR
UVJC will collaborate with several A*STAR research institutes, including the Institute of Microelectronics, Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, and the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology. These collaborations aim to develop advanced materials, manufacturing techniques, and technologies with potential for commercialization.
Beh Kian Teik, CEO of A*STAR, commented, “UVJC’s establishment of its global headquarters and R&D center in Singapore underscores the importance of deep-tech partnerships in advancing sustainable manufacturing.”
Evolving From OLED Innovation to Broader Applications
UVJP technology originated from Organic Vapor Jet Printing, a proprietary process created by Universal Display Corporation for OLED display production. The method provides a solvent-free, mask-free deposition system that offers a cleaner and more efficient alternative to traditional fabrication techniques.
UVJC is now expanding this technology to other industries, including semiconductor packaging, renewable energy, and life sciences. Future applications could involve pharmaceutical dosing systems, solid-state battery electrolytes, and organic photovoltaic technologies.
“UVJC is extending our novel dry printing and precision additive manufacturing platform into exciting new application areas with transformative potential,” said Steven V. Abramson, President and CEO of Universal Display Corporation. “Under Chandran’s leadership, the team has built a world-class operation. Singapore’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem and strong research institutions make it an ideal location to transform science into commercial solutions.”
