Snap Inc. (NYSE:SNAP) introduced SPECS on Tuesday, a new wearable computer built into see-through augmented reality glasses.

The product is available for pre-order at $2,195, with a $200 refundable deposit. Snap expects shipments to begin this fall in the United States, United Kingdom and France.

SPECS are designed to bring digital tools into the user’s field of vision. The glasses support AI assistance, workplace tools, entertainment, navigation, shared experiences and developer-built Lenses.

Snap positioned the device between lightweight AI glasses and larger mixed-reality headsets. The company said SPECS are fully standalone and do not require a separate puck or tether.

The 47 millimetre model weighs 132 grams, while the 52 millimetre version weighs 136 grams. The frame uses Swiss TR90 polymer and supports removable inserts for different prescription needs.

The glasses use Snap’s liquid crystal on silicon display and provide a 51-degree field of view. The company said the visual experience supports 16 million colors and can function like a 24-inch desktop display or a large home cinema screen at distance.

Snap also redesigned the waveguide system used in the glasses. The lenses can shift from clear to tinted in 10 seconds using electrochromic technology.

SPECS are powered by two Snapdragon processors. One handles computer vision, while the other supports Lenses, enabling hand tracking, lower latency and spatial interactions.

The company said the device delivers 7-millisecond motion-to-photon latency. That measurement is intended to help digital content remain stable when overlaid on the real world.

Battery life is listed at up to 4 hours for mixed use, including audio, video, Lenses, AI assistance and Bluetooth notifications. The charging case provides four extra charges, giving up to 20 hours of total mixed-use availability.

Snap also announced developer tools for SPECS. These include agentic development features for Lens Studio, a spatial benchmark, a migration tool and a native development kit.

The company said privacy features include permission prompts, an LED recording indicator, on-device processing and user controls for stored, synced, shared or deleted data.
