SciSparc Ltd. (Nasdaq:SPRC), a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company specialising in therapies for central nervous system disorders, announced that its board of directors has resolved to initiate a new program to advance 3D protein modeling using quantum computing technology. The Initiative seeks to enhance drug discovery by improving the accuracy of protein structure predictions and interactions with ligands, supporting potential breakthroughs in structural biology and personalised medicine.
Quantum Computing for Protein Modeling
Proteins’ functions are dictated by their 3D structures, which are dynamic and often challenging to model accurately using classical computing methods. SciSparc’s Initiative aims to apply quantum computing to simulate protein energy dynamics with higher precision, capturing complex movements and interactions that traditional methods may not fully resolve. Key objectives include accurately predicting protein folding, modelling protein-ligand interactions, and accelerating drug discovery with high-precision computational predictions.
Research and Development Focus
A dedicated research team will be formed to integrate quantum computing algorithms into 3D protein modeling, generating new intellectual property. SciSparc plans to collaborate with experts in quantum computing and structural biology. Initial efforts will refine algorithms for protein dynamics and binding interactions, targeting applications in drug discovery for neurological and rare diseases, which align with the Company’s existing expertise. The Initiative will operate through a new wholly owned Israeli subsidiary.
SciSparc is a specialty clinical-stage pharmaceutical company developing cannabinoid-based therapies. The Company’s current pipeline includes SCI-110 for Tourette Syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease and agitation, and SCI-210 for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and status epilepticus. SciSparc also holds a controlling interest in a subsidiary selling hemp seed oil-based products on Amazon.com.
