  • ScanTech AI is developing a next-generation AI-powered software upgrade for the SENTINEL CT Computed Tomography screening system.

  • The upgrade is designed to enhance checkpoint operations with real-time insights, improved automation, and increased operational efficiency.

  • The release aims to expand the capabilities of the SENTINEL CT platform beyond current software functions.

ScanTech AI Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:STAI), a developer of AI-powered CT screening systems for aviation, customs, and critical infrastructure, has announced that it is working on an AI-powered software upgrade for its SENTINEL CT Computed Tomography system.

The upcoming software represents the next generation of checkpoint operation tools, combining AI-driven processing, faster system performance, and an updated operator interface. According to the company, the software is being designed to improve the user experience for operators while increasing screening throughput. The system will provide real-time operational insights and offer greater flexibility for various security checkpoint requirements.

Dr. Alfred Forbes, Chief Science Officer at ScanTech AI, said the upgrade goes beyond routine software updates, which generally focus on fixing issues or making minor adjustments. This development is intended to expand the operational scope of the SENTINEL CT platform, integrating advanced AI intelligence, automation features, and adaptability functions. Dr. Forbes noted that these capabilities are expected to support more efficient security checkpoints and optimise operational performance.

The company indicated that this AI-driven upgrade will integrate advanced analytics and threat detection algorithms into the SENTINEL platform. By doing so, it intends to enhance the identification and classification of prohibited items and hazardous materials in real time. The system is also expected to streamline the operator workflow by providing automated assistance in object recognition and threat assessment.

ScanTech AI stated that the upgrade will be tailored to the operational demands of high-traffic environments such as airports, seaports, and border control facilities. The platform’s adaptability will allow it to be deployed across various types of critical infrastructure, including government buildings, embassies, corporate offices, factories, and processing plants.

The SENTINEL CT system, which serves as the foundation for this upgrade, is one of ScanTech AI’s flagship products. It incorporates non-intrusive ‘fixed-gantry’ CT scanning technology and proprietary artificial intelligence algorithms. This enables the system to quickly and accurately detect hazardous substances and contraband. The software currently allows for automated detection, classification, and reporting of threat items, and the upcoming upgrade is intended to expand these capabilities.

ScanTech AI’s development strategy focuses on integrating its AI technology into security systems to address emerging operational challenges in global transportation and infrastructure sectors. The planned software release is intended to position the SENTINEL CT system as a platform capable of evolving with changing security requirements.

The company expects that once deployed, the AI-powered upgrade will assist security operators in managing increasing passenger and cargo volumes while maintaining compliance with safety and inspection standards.
