Roper Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ROP) reported second-quarter 2026 results on 23 July 2026 and raised its full-year adjusted earnings guidance to $22.15 to $22.30 per share. The report combined organic growth of 5% with a large accounting gain on its minority stake in Indicor, so the difference between GAAP and adjusted earnings is unusually wide.
Business and sector
Roper is a diversified technology company, listed on the Nasdaq, that owns and operates vertical software businesses and a smaller group of engineered products businesses. It reports three segments: Application Software, Network Software and Technology Enabled Products. Its software units serve niche markets such as healthcare, legal, transportation, education and financial services, where products are embedded in customer workflows and revenue is largely recurring. The company's model is to generate cash from those businesses and redeploy it into acquisitions and, as this quarter showed, share repurchases, so capital allocation is a central part of the investment debate.
Latest reported results
For the quarter ended 30 June 2026, revenue rose 9% to $2.11 billion, with organic growth of 5% and acquisitions contributing 3%. Application Software revenue was $1,180.8 million, up 8%, at an operating margin of 27.4%. Network Software revenue was $430.9 million, up 12%, at a margin of 41.0%, and Technology Enabled Products revenue was $497.2 million, up 7%, at 33.3%. GAAP diluted earnings per share were $11.62, driven by an $835 million pre-tax gain on the Indicor stake, while adjusted diluted earnings per share were $5.38, up 10%.
Financial performance and industry context
GAAP operating cash flow was $469 million, up 16%, and adjusted free cash flow was $447 million, up 11%. Roper repurchased 3.6 million shares for $1.2 billion in the quarter, bringing the programme total to 9.0 million shares for $3.2 billion. Chief executive Neil Hunn said the repurchases had brought the share count back to 2013 levels. Acquisition spending in the first six months was $27.5 million, compared with $2.0 billion a year earlier. The company also launched several new AI-enabled products during the quarter, which it highlighted alongside its financial results. The company now expects full-year revenue growth above 8%, organic growth of about 6%, and adjusted earnings per share of $22.15 to $22.30, against the previous $21.80 to $22.05. Third-quarter adjusted earnings per share are guided to $5.75 to $5.80. Guidance excludes unannounced acquisitions or divestitures, proceeds from the pending Indicor instrumentation business divestiture and further buybacks.
Risks and uncertainties
Roper's reported GAAP profit in the quarter, which was more than double the adjusted figure per share, was boosted by a non-recurring gain, and it should not be treated as a guide to underlying performance. Organic growth of 5% is moderate in absolute terms, and vertical software businesses face the possibility that artificial intelligence changes pricing and competition. Large repurchases reduce the capacity for acquisitions if opportunities emerge, although management says it retains significant capacity. The Indicor divestiture is pending and its completion is not assured. Acquisition-led growth depends on finding suitable assets at acceptable prices.
Indicor sale and buyback balance
The third-quarter report will show whether Roper meets its guided adjusted earnings range and whether organic growth stays near the full-year target of about 6%. Other points include progress on the Indicor transaction, the balance between buybacks and acquisitions, free cash flow conversion, and customer take-up of the AI-enabled products launched during the quarter, as the company seeks to show its software franchises can absorb new technology.
