OSI Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSIS) is a multinational technology company focused on electronic systems and components for homeland security, aerospace, defense, and healthcare industries. The company operates through three business divisions Security, Healthcare, Optoelectronics and Manufacturing.
The company announced it has received a contract valued at approximately USD 11 million through its Security division to support border security operations in Europe. The project involves the delivery of custom-configured radiation monitoring portals and includes related technical services and follow-on support.
The award was granted by an unnamed international customer, and it reflects OSI Systems’ continued involvement in supplying screening technologies for critical infrastructure and cross-border protection initiatives.
Ajay Mehra, the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, commented on the development, stating that the company will be supporting a longstanding partner with technology to assist in radiation threat detection.
Although the company has not disclosed the country or region within Europe receiving the equipment, the contract builds on OSI’s portfolio of global border screening solutions. These systems are typically deployed at land checkpoints, seaports, and border crossings to detect unauthorized movement of radioactive or nuclear materials.
The agreement includes both hardware and software components, with the primary focus being radiation monitoring portals customized for the customer’s operational needs. These systems are typically used to scan people, vehicles, and cargo entering or exiting border areas. The deal also includes installation, system integration, operator training, and ongoing technical support. Such services aim to ensure operational continuity and effectiveness of the detection systems once deployed.
The contract aligns with OSI Systems’ broader focus on delivering safety and detection technologies for government and defense clients worldwide. The Security division remains one of the company's key business segments, with previous projects involving airport security screening, cargo inspection, and critical site surveillance.
Over the years, OSI Systems has expanded its product base to include high-energy X-ray systems, explosive trace detectors, and radiation detection systems. The company is often selected for international security projects due to its ability to provide vertically integrated solutions, meaning it handles design, engineering, manufacturing, and support in-house.
The company employs more than 6,000 people globally, with facilities in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. It regularly secures contracts from defense ministries, border agencies, airports, and private operators around the world.
In recent years, OSI Systems has participated in numerous national security upgrades, including multi-million-dollar projects involving cargo and passenger screening for air and land transportation networks.
While the exact timeline for the current European deployment was not specified, delivery and service phases are expected to begin within the current fiscal year. The company noted that the system configurations and service model are tailored to the customer’s specific regulatory and environmental requirements.
This award follows several recent wins for OSI Systems in the homeland security sector and underscores the continuing demand for advanced screening capabilities at international borders.
