Lloyds Banking Group and Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO) have announced an expansion of their multi-year technology partnership, focusing on infrastructure software and cloud solutions to support the bank’s ongoing digital transformation. The agreement extends the Group’s access to Broadcom’s software portfolio, including VMware Cloud Foundation and mainframe solutions, aimed at improving operational resilience, scalability, and agility across Lloyds’ technology estate.

The initiative will enable Lloyds to provide digital services to its 28 million UK customers and businesses more efficiently. VMware Cloud Foundation will form a core part of the deployment, supporting data centre consolidation and delivering a consistent operating model across private cloud environments. The approach integrates the flexibility of public cloud infrastructure with the security, performance, and cost-efficiency of on-premises systems.

The platform will support a range of applications, from traditional banking systems to modern and AI-driven workloads, providing unified operations, governance, and control. Broadcom will also provide professional services and training to Lloyds’ engineering teams to facilitate adoption and operational integration.

Ron van Kemenade, Group Chief Operating Officer at Lloyds Banking Group, highlighted that the upgrades aim to ensure reliable digital banking for customers while creating a scalable foundation for future products and services. Luigi Freguia, President EMEA at Broadcom, noted that the addition of VMware to Broadcom’s infrastructure software portfolio strengthens the partnership and supports Lloyds in modernizing its IT systems.

This expanded collaboration represents a continuation of Lloyds Banking Group’s technology strategy to consolidate its data centres, unify cloud operations, and integrate infrastructure solutions that can support both current and emerging digital services.
