  • Hesai selected as exclusive supplier for long-range and short-range lidar systems
  • $40 million contract expansion scheduled for deliveries through 2026
  • Supports highway and urban safety applications amid robotaxi market scale-up

Hesai Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: HSAI) announced a contract expansion worth $40 million with a major U.S. robotaxi company for lidar system deliveries through 2026. Under the agreement, Hesai will act as the exclusive supplier for both long-range and short-range lidar units, supporting the operator’s autonomous vehicle fleet across multiple driving environments.

The contract comes as the robotaxi sector begins a rapid scale-up phase in North America, reflecting increased demand for advanced perception solutions that can handle both highway and urban conditions. Hesai currently holds a 61% share of the global Level 4 autonomous driving lidar market, according to research firm Yole Group, positioning the company as a leading provider in the segment.

In an official statement, Hesai management said, “Being selected as the exclusive lidar supplier reinforces the value of our comprehensive portfolio for both long-range highway applications and urban safety use cases.” The company noted that its products are designed to integrate with complex autonomous vehicle platforms, providing real-time 3D perception for safer navigation.

The contract expansion reinforces Hesai’s role in the autonomous driving ecosystem, particularly as fleets of robotaxis prepare for wider commercial deployment. Both long-range and short-range lidar units play critical roles: long-range systems enable high-speed highway operation, while short-range sensors enhance object detection and safety in densely populated urban environments.

While the financial terms indicate a total commitment of $40 million over multiple years, Hesai did not disclose specific delivery volumes. Analysts highlight that the contract strengthens Hesai’s recurring revenue potential but note that the overall impact on financial results will be incremental until deliveries are executed through 2026.

Hesai’s lidar technology portfolio covers a spectrum of applications beyond robotaxis, including logistics vehicles, autonomous shuttles, and industrial automation. The company emphasized that this agreement demonstrates market confidence in its ability to meet stringent performance and reliability requirements for commercial autonomous operations.
