Equus Energy has completed the pre-front end engineering design (Pre-FEED) phase for the Equus Gas Project on the North West Shelf. The study has confirmed that the project is both technically feasible and commercially viable, paving the way for the next stages of development. The pre-FEED assessment validated two main tie-back options, connecting the Equus fields to existing offshore infrastructure operated by Woodside’s Pluto facility and Santos’ Varanus Island plant. These options provide access to both liquefied natural gas (LNG) export markets and Western Australia’s (WA) domestic gas network. The company’s contingent resource is independently certified at 1.7 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas and 38 million barrels (mbbl) of condensate. Using existing infrastructure through tie-backs is intended to reduce capital and operational complexity compared to new-build facilities. The project is designed to deliver around 350 million standard cubic feet per day (mscf/d) of gas, with an initial development of up to five subsea wells, and supply up to 5% of WA’s domestic gas demand. Production and stabilisation will take place via a centrally located floating production, storage and offloading facility, which will allow for the export of dry gas and direct offtake of condensate by tanker. Regulatory progress includes conditional consent from the WA Government for export and domestic supply allocations, with no material approval risks identified so far. Equus is advancing discussions with potential partners, LNG buyers and financiers, and is planning an investor webinar. Industry analysis indicates that the project comes at a time of increasing regional LNG demand and tightening domestic supply, indicating potential support for project advancement. Equus Energy managing director Will Barker said: “The results of pre-FEED are an important milestone for Equus and provide a strong foundation as we progress discussions with upstream partners, infrastructure providers, LNG customers and financing groups. “What continues to stand out about Equus is the ability to leverage existing North West Shelf infrastructure and spare gas processing capacity to access both LNG export markets and the Western Australian domestic gas market, providing development flexibility and capital efficiency.” "Equus Energy completes pre-FEED for North West Shelf gas project" was originally created and published by Offshore Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
