Volume Up, Margin Down
Uxin (NASDAQ:UXIN) reported unaudited second-quarter results on September 24, 2026. Total transactions reached 21,899 units, up 88.7 percent, while revenue of RMB 1,151.2 million, about USD 169.7 million, rose 74.9 percent. The catch was price: management blamed a sharp market-wide decline in used car prices for a gross margin of negative 0.7 percent. When used-car prices fall quickly, a retailer holding inventory can sell below its purchase cost, so volume growth does not translate into profit.
The Guidance That Lifted Shares
For the quarter ending September 30, 2026, the company guided to retail volume of 20,500 to 21,000 units, revenue of RMB 1,160 million to RMB 1,190 million and gross margin above 6.0 percent, a swing of more than 6.7 percentage points from the second quarter, simple arithmetic. Chief financial officer Feng Lin called the pressure largely a near-term consequence of the price adjustment. The company said cash and financing should meet obligations over the next 12 months. Parties designated by NIO Capital also completed a USD 15 million Investment under previously announced subscription agreements.
Insider Buying and Risks
A Rule 10b5-1 plan controlled by the chairman and chief executive allows purchases of up to USD 5 million of ADS at or below USD 2.85 starting September 28, 2026. The first reported purchase of 8,440 ADS at USD 1.26 totaled about USD 10,634, a small fraction of the plan. Risks include a used-car price war in China, thin margins, a five-year share price decline of 99.59 percent in published market data, and exposure to Chinese consumer demand. The 52-week range is USD 0.90 to USD 4.14.
Where Things Stand
Uxin (NASDAQ:UXIN) is rising because growth is real and management has put a number on a margin recovery, not because profitability has returned. Retail volume of 19,610 units shows demand, but a negative 0.7 percent gross margin shows price risk. The test is third-quarter gross margin above 6.0 percent, due when results are reported, and whether insider purchases grow beyond token size.
