Emergency Permitting Applies to the 78.5-Mile West Susitna Road

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a public notice on September 25 on the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority's permit application for the West Susitna Access Project, and the comment period is now closed. The Corps determined the request qualifies for emergency permitting procedures under Executive Order 14156, expected to shorten processing time, and identified the road as a critical mineral project under Executive Order 14241.

The 78.5-mile gravel road is designed for year-round public and industrial traffic and would connect Whistler to existing highway, rail, power and port infrastructure near Anchorage. The authority recently authorized up to $25 million for geotechnical drilling and related permitting work.

Neighboring Antimony Permits and Port MacKenzie Rail Funding Add Support

Nova Minerals (NASDAQ:NVA), which owns the adjacent Estelle project, secured final state approvals for its antimony plan of operations, with all Phase 1 permits obtained about three months after submission. The U.S. Department of Transportation also awarded $249 million to complete the 32-mile Port MacKenzie rail extension, with the state authority committing up to $34 million in matching funds.

CEO Tim Smith called the developments positive indicators that Alaska is open for business.

Drilling Results From 7,493 Meters Due in the Coming Weeks

The company expects to report results from 7,493 meters of exploratory core drilling and from surface sampling programs from its 2026 field season over the coming weeks. The access road still depends on federal permit issuance, which the Corps is now evaluating.
