Dry Texas Weather and a Lower Revenue Outlook Hit the Shares
NPK International (NYSE:NPKI) shares are trading down 15.98% today after the company reported third-quarter results on October 29 and lowered its full-year guidance. Management said exceptionally dry weather in Texas weighed on matting Demand in the third quarter and early in the fourth.
Updated 2026 guidance calls for revenue of $300 million to $305 million. Earlier in the year, the company had guided to a range of $313 million to $323 million, so the new range sits below the old floor.
The cut stands out because the quarter itself showed growth. The shares are reacting to the forward outlook, which implies a softer fourth quarter than the earlier range had assumed.
NPK is a worksite access solutions company based in The Woodlands, Texas. It manufactures, sells and rents recyclable composite matting and provides planning, logistics and site restoration services to electrical transmission and distribution, oil and gas, pipeline, renewable and construction customers.
Rental Growth and a 26.2% EBITDA Margin Sit Beside Softer Operating Margin
Third-quarter revenue grew 11% to $76.3 million. Rental revenue rose about 8% to $31.8 million, service revenue climbed about 21% to $17.7 million, and product sales increased about 9% to $26.7 million.
Adjusted EBITDA from continuing operations was $20.0 million, up 30% from $15.4 million, lifting the margin to 26.2% from 22.3%. Operating Income was roughly flat at $9.2 million, and Operating Margin slipped to 12.0% from 13.2%.
Adjusted income from continuing operations was $7.9 million, or $0.09 per diluted share, compared with $6.1 million, or $0.07, a year earlier. Net Income was $6.1 million.
Gross margin eased to 31.3% from 31.9%, and combined rental and service revenue of $49.6 million rose 12%, showing the recurring side of the Business kept expanding.
Spending Plans, Cash Position and Buybacks Behind the Guidance
The company guided to full-year adjusted EBITDA of $90 million to $93 million and capital expenditures of $70 million to $75 million, including $40 million to $45 million for the rental fleet and about $20 million for a Manufacturing expansion. Third-quarter free Cash Flow was negative $4.4 million, against Operating Cash Flow of $7.1 million. The spending plan signals continued Investment even as the revenue outlook comes down.
NPK ended September with $4.2 million in cash and $26.3 million of total debt, with $132.2 million available under its revolver. It repurchased about 1.0 million shares for $13.4 million in the quarter and has $76 million left on its authorization.
Third-quarter costs included about $1.2 million of severance and $0.7 million of strategic planning and diligence expenses.
Conference Call and Weather Recovery Are the Next Tests for NPK's Reset Guidance
Shares are now trading below the $10.51 level that marked the 52-week low earlier this week, according to market data, with the high at $16.50. Before today's decline, three analysts had an average price target of $20.33, shown here as a data point only.
Management's conference call on October 30 is the next opportunity to hear how it sees weather, Utility demand and the fleet buildout shaping fourth-quarter results.
