ARCALYST Revenue Jumps 58% and Tops Estimates
Kiniksa Pharmaceuticals International (NASDAQ:KNSA) shares are trading up 22.98% to $89.75 after a third-quarter report that beat expectations on revenue and earnings. ARCALYST revenue rose about 58% from a year earlier to $286.0 million, ahead of an estimate near $260.7 million. Adjusted EPS of $0.56 also topped consensus, and shares opened at $84.52.
Kiniksa, headquartered in London, is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on immune-modulating therapies for cardiovascular and autoinflammatory diseases. Its only marketed product, ARCALYST, is an IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta cytokine trap and the first and only FDA-approved treatment for recurrent pericarditis, with approval dating to March 2021.
Raised Guidance Points to an ARCALYST Franchise Above $1 Billion
Management lifted its 2026 ARCALYST revenue guidance to $1.045 billion to $1.050 billion from $980 million to $995 million, and said the drug is on track to exceed $1 billion for the year. ARCALYST generated about $677.6 million of net product revenue in 2025.
Penetration of the roughly 14,000 patients per year with multiple recurrences reached 23% at the end of the third quarter, up from 18% at the end of last year. About 5,450 prescribers have written the drug, up roughly 450 from the prior quarter, and about 30% of them are repeat prescribers. Roughly 20% of prescriptions come from first-recurrence patients, and a direct-to-consumer campaign drove a 12-fold increase in website traffic.
Profit Growth and a Debt-Free Balance Sheet Support the Move
Operating income rose to $54.2 million and net income reached $47.3 million, while ARCALYST collaboration profit grew 67% to $211.6 million. A 50/50 profit share with Regeneron (NASDAQ:REGN) limits margins. Kiniksa ended the quarter with $568.8 million in cash and no debt after generating about $43 million in net cash during the quarter.
The stock carries a market cap of $7.00 billion and trailing EPS of $0.97. It reached a new 52-week high near $89, and the 52-week range runs from $35.20 to $90.77. Expense guidance for 2026 calls for R&D of $160 million to $170 million, including KPL-387 pre-commercial manufacturing, and SG&A of $270 million to $280 million.
Healthcare is drawing defensive inflows, with the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF little changed, down 0.09%. Merck (NYSE:MRK) oncology data and a Barclays target raise to $180, along with AbbVie's (NYSE:ABBV) etentamig BLA filing and Skyrizi approval, also supported the group.
KPL-387 Phase 3 Data in 2027 Shapes the Next Chapter
Pivotal Phase 3 data for KPL-387, a monthly subcutaneous therapy, are expected in the second half of 2027, with a potential launch in the 2028 to 2029 timeframe. KPL-1161, a quarterly IL-1 alpha and beta inhibitor, is on track to enter Phase 1 by the end of 2026. Concentration in a single product remains the key risk, and management says the bar for business development is exceedingly high.
