Highlights
- Expanded cohort confirms over 90% adherence with Shield blood-based colorectal cancer screening test.
- The survey shows a higher preference for blood-based screening for colorectal and lung cancers.
- Findings to be presented at the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) 2025 Annual Meeting in Phoenix.
Guardant Health, Inc. (NASDAQ:GH) announced that it will present new research, alongside its collaborators, emphasizing the potential of blood-based cancer screening to enhance adherence rates.
The latest analysis, expanding the company’s 2023 data, examined a cohort of 20,000 patients and reaffirmed previous findings on the effectiveness of the Shield blood-based colorectal cancer screening test. Shield, the first FDA-approved blood test for primary CRC screening among average-risk adults aged 45 and above, demonstrated an adherence rate exceeding 90%, compared to the 28–71% adherence range typically observed with conventional CRC screening methods.
Survey Findings and Patient Preferences
A separate Cedars Sinai–led study evaluated patient preferences for various screening approaches. The results indicated that 43.9% of eligible participants preferred a blood test for both colorectal and lung cancer screenings instead of traditional options.
Executive Remarks
Dr. Craig Eagle, Chief Medical Officer at Guardant Health, commented:
“Today’s research reinforces what Guardant has long believed: blood-based cancer screening is the future. These studies highlight the power of a simple blood test in addressing today’s gaps in colorectal cancer screening adherence and potential to expand to an even broader population looking for a more pleasant option for their regular lung cancer screening. We’re eager to present these findings along with our research collaborators at the ACG meeting and proud to offer Shield, an FDA-approved test, as an accessible and convenient alternative to traditional screening methods.”
