GE HealthCare (Nasdaq:GEHC) has signed a multi-year agreement to supply over 300 CT (computed tomography) scanners to public hospitals under Indonesia’s Strengthening Indonesia’s Health Referral Network (SIHREN) program. The deployment will cover all 38 provinces, including urban and remote regions, and is expected to be completed by 2028.

The procurement of CT scanners was conducted through a fully competitive international tender process governed by World Bank procurement regulations. The SIHREN program represents the largest healthcare infrastructure investment in Indonesia and one of the largest multilateral health projects globally.

Focus on Early Diagnosis and Treatment
The initiative is designed to improve early detection and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), maternal health, and pandemic resilience. CT scanners provide detailed 2D and 3D images of internal organs, bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues, supporting diagnosis of conditions such as cancer, stroke, and heart disease.

Local Manufacturing and Workforce Development
GE HealthCare has recently inaugurated a production facility in Bogor in collaboration with PT Kalbe Farma’s subsidiary, Forsta. The facility supports local supply chain resilience, technology transfer, and the development of a skilled healthcare and technical workforce in Indonesia.

Training and Knowledge Sharing
The Regional Innovation & Training Experience (RITE) Hub in Jakarta provides hands-on training for Indonesian healthcare professionals on advanced imaging technologies, including MR and CT systems. The center works with educational institutions to deliver programs covering device operation and clinical pathways, strengthening local expertise and maximizing the utilization of medical technologies.

Previous Collaborations
GE HealthCare has worked with Indonesia’s healthcare sector for over seven decades. In early 2025, the company was awarded a tender to supply 10 1.5T MR systems to public hospitals. These systems enable high-resolution imaging for early and accurate diagnosis, monitoring, and management of conditions such as cancer, stroke, and heart disease.
