Candel Therapeutics (NASDAQ:CADL) shares are trading up 8% at $8.77 today on Volume roughly double the average, as investors position ahead of the SITC 2026 annual meeting running from November 4 to 8. Candel Therapeutics is a pre-revenue, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company based in Needham, Massachusetts, developing off-the-shelf viral immunotherapies. They are designed to turn immunologically cold tumors into immune-responsive sites and trigger a systemic anti-tumor response. Its lead candidate, aglatimagene besadenovec, has generated Phase 3 data in localized prostate cancer, with a BLA submission targeted for late 2026, and it is also being studied in non-small cell lung cancer and pancreatic cancer.

SITC Presentations Span Prostate, Lung and Glioblastoma

Candel has late-breaking data on aglatimagene in localized prostate cancer, lung cancer findings expected Friday and early recurrent glioblastoma findings Saturday. The pivotal Phase 3 trial in localized prostate cancer was conducted under a Special Protocol Assessment agreed with the FDA and published in The Lancet Oncology.

The FDA has granted aglatimagene Fast Track and Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy designations for newly diagnosed localized prostate cancer in intermediate-to-high-risk patients, Fast Track in non-small cell lung cancer, and Fast Track and Orphan Drug designations in pancreatic cancer.

Inducement Grants and a New General Counsel Are Routine Items

On November 2, Candel announced that its compensation committee had granted stock options to purchase an aggregate of 107,600 shares to four new employees at an $8.33 per share exercise price. The options vest 25% on the first anniversary of each employee's start date and the remainder in 36 equal monthly installments.

The company also recently named a general counsel. Its second platform, based on herpes simplex virus, includes CAN-3110 in a Phase 1b trial in recurrent high-grade glioma, and the enLIGHTEN Discovery Platform leverages human biology and advanced analytics to create new viral immunotherapies for solid tumors. Candel has about 55 employees.

Conference Data and a Late-2026 BLA Target Frame the Setup

With data presentations lined up across three tumor types this week, the SITC meeting is the immediate catalyst. A BLA submission for aglatimagene in localized prostate cancer, targeted for late 2026, is the next regulatory milestone.
