LPL Financial (NASDAQ:LPLA) reported third-quarter results on Tuesday, October 27, with record adjusted EPS of $5.97, up 15% from a year earlier. The estimate was $5.69 as screened, a gap of 4.97%. GAAP net income was $356.6 million, or $4.52 per diluted share, against a net loss of $29.5 million, or $0.37 per share, in the third quarter of 2025, when Commonwealth-related costs weighed on results.
Total revenue was $5,344.0 million, up 17% year over year and 3% from the second quarter. Gross profit rose 12% to $1,661.9 million, and the company narrowed its 2026 core G&A outlook to $2,140 million to $2,160 million, which includes Commonwealth-related expenses.
Adjusted pre-tax income rose 13% to $641.1 million, an adjusted pre-tax margin of 38.6%. Adjusted EBITDA increased 12% to $864.2 million.
Core G&A rose 11% to $532.2 million, slightly slower than the 12% gross profit growth, which let operating leverage show through. The company described capital allocation and organic growth as the drivers of the record per-share result.
Asset Growth: Why Did Recruiting Slow While Advisory Assets Climbed?
Total client assets were $2.6 trillion, up 11% from a year ago. Advisory assets grew 16% to $1.56 trillion and now make up 60.9% of the total, up from 58.2%, while brokerage assets rose 4% to $1.00 trillion.
Organic net new assets were $29.1 billion, equal to a 4.5% annualized growth rate, which management cited as improved organic growth. Recruited assets were $24.1 billion, down 26% from the prior-year quarter, though the trailing twelve-month total stood at $81 billion.
Client cash balances were $56.6 billion, flat from the second quarter and up 1% year over year, equal to 2.2% of client assets versus 2.4% a year ago. About $20 million was deployed to close three Liquidity and Succession deals in the quarter.
Commonwealth, AI Rollout and Buybacks: What Did Management Highlight?
Management said it remains on track to complete the Commonwealth conversion in the fourth quarter of 2026. Asset retention is now expected at about 83%, and estimated run-rate EBITDA from the deal is now $415 million.
The chief executive also pointed to the rollout of Cyan, the company's AI agent for advisors, as evidence of platform strength. The president and chief financial officer said the momentum should carry through year-end and into 2027.
LPL repurchased $300.6 million of stock in the quarter and paid $23.6 million in dividends. It declared a dividend of $0.30 per share, payable on November 30 to holders of record on November 12. Corporate cash was $562.8 million, and the leverage ratio was 1.93x, up from 1.91x in the second quarter.
What to Watch Next: Commonwealth Conversion and Recruiting Pace
The fourth-quarter conversion of Commonwealth accounts and the final retention figure are the key markers, alongside whether recruited assets recover from this quarter's 26% decline. Core G&A against the $2.14 billion to $2.16 billion range will also frame how much of the record profit margin holds into 2027.
