How Did AI and Data Center Demand Show Up in the October 27 Earnings Reports?
Six companies tied their results to computing infrastructure on Tuesday, October 27. Corning (NYSE:GLW) reported Optical Communications sales up 44%, Innio (NASDAQ:INIO) said data center revenue climbed to $463 million, and Teradyne (NASDAQ:TER) posted EPS of $2.29 on revenue of about $1.31 billion. Seagate Technology (NASDAQ:STX) grew revenue 61%, FirstEnergy (NYSE:FE) reported 7.9 gigawatts of contracted large load, and CenterPoint Energy (NYSE:CNP) raised guidance.
The demand reaches the market through different channels: fiber, gas engines, chip test equipment, storage and power networks. Each company described that demand in its own terms, so the sections below stay with the figures each one reported. None of the six release texts describes a share reaction with a stated day, so this roundup concentrates on results, guidance and the dates ahead.
Corning: Why Did Optical Sales Jump 44%?
Core EPS was $0.91, up 36%, and core net sales rose 19% to $5.081 billion. Core operating margin rose 310 basis points to 22.7%. Optical Communications sales reached $2.379 billion, with Enterprise Networks up 84%, and management said sales of products for generative AI data centers more than doubled.
Corning signed four long-term, multibillion-dollar customer agreements in the quarter, including with Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and AT&T (NYSE:T). It guided fourth-quarter core EPS to $0.96 to $1.00 and targets doubling its annualized sales run rate from $20 billion to $40 billion by the end of 2030.
Teradyne: Did AI Test Demand Push Results Above Its Own Guidance?
Teradyne reported after the close with EPS of $2.29 and revenue of about $1.31 billion, above the July outlook of $1,200 million to $1,300 million in revenue and $1.85 to $2.15 in non-GAAP EPS. The company supplies automated test equipment for semiconductors.
In July its chief executive tied guidance to strong AI-related demand. New products since late September include the Magnum E2 for memory test and the Titan HP platform for advanced AI data center devices, and its conference call is on Wednesday, October 28. The Q2 baseline was a record $1,329 million of revenue, up 104% from a year earlier.
Innio: Is Data Center Demand Behind the Raised 2026 Outlook?
Innio makes Jenbacher gas engines and related power equipment. Revenue rose 57% to $1,167.9 million, and equipment revenue rose 86% to $777.6 million. Adjusted EBITDA was $245.4 million at a 21.0% margin, and backlog was $7,963.4 million.
Guidance for 2026 revenue moved to $3.9 billion to $4.0 billion and adjusted EBITDA to $780 million to $800 million. Management booked a 620 megawatt follow-on order from a mega-scale data center developer and cited a potential grid shortfall of up to 80 gigawatts in the United States by 2030.
Seagate Technology: What Lifted Gross Margin to 57.8%?
Fiscal first-quarter revenue rose 61% to $4.233 billion, and non-GAAP EPS was $7.68 against $2.61. Non-GAAP gross margin was 57.8% against 40.1%. Management credited a strengthening demand environment, value-based pricing and its HAMR-based technology roadmap.
Free cash flow was $1.48 billion, and the company retired about $1.2 billion of debt. The quarterly dividend was raised about 3% to $0.76 per share. It guided fiscal second-quarter revenue to $4.8 billion, plus or minus $100 million, and non-GAAP EPS to $9.20, plus or minus $0.20.
FirstEnergy: How Much Large-Load Demand Is Contracted?
Core EPS rose to $0.98 from $0.83, and management reaffirmed 2026 core EPS guidance of $2.62 to $2.82. Contracted large-load demand reached 7.9 gigawatts, nearly double the level at the start of 2026, with about 4 gigawatts more under negotiation.
The Energize365 program totals $36 billion over five years, and the company proposed the Maidsville Energy Center, a combined-cycle gas plant in West Virginia. A final order from the state commission is projected in the fourth quarter of 2026. Nine-month core EPS was $2.20 versus $2.02.
CenterPoint Energy: Does ERCOT Load Growth Support a Higher Guide?
Non-GAAP EPS was $0.53 against $0.50, and 2026 guidance was raised to $1.90 to $1.92. The company introduced 2027 guidance of $2.07 to $2.09 and lifted its 2026 to 2030 capital plan to about $38.7 billion from $34.2 billion.
Expected large-load energization in the ERCOT batch process is about 3 gigawatts in 2027 rising to 12 gigawatts in 2030. Estimated 2026 year-end rate base is about $31.9 billion. The company cautions that actual demand may be lower than the amounts studied and that approval timing could delay energization.
AI Demand Compared: How Big Are the Shifts in Each Result?
Innio's data center revenue of $463 million is about 12.2 times the $38 million of a year earlier (calculated). CenterPoint's expected 12 gigawatts of ERCOT load in 2030 equals about 57% of its current 21 gigawatt Houston Electric system peak (calculated), and FirstEnergy's contracted and negotiating load together come to about 11.9 gigawatts (calculated).
On guidance, Seagate's $4.8 billion midpoint is about 13.4% above the quarter just reported, while Corning's fourth-quarter core EPS midpoint of $0.98 is about 7.7% above the $0.91 of the third quarter (both calculated). Teradyne's $2.29 compares with a July non-GAAP midpoint of $2.00, about 14.5% higher (calculated).
What to Watch Next: Calls, Commission Orders and ERCOT Decisions
Teradyne holds its call on Wednesday, October 28, and FirstEnergy follows at 9 a.m. Eastern the same day. The West Virginia commission order is projected for the fourth quarter, while ERCOT is expected to decide base-load amounts in December 2026 and studied-load allocations in April 2027. Seagate's fiscal second-quarter report will show whether the $4.8 billion midpoint is met, and Corning's solar ramp and capital spending remain open items. Innio will be judged on whether equipment margins hold near the third-quarter level as deliveries rise.
