Hycroft Earnings: Why Did the Loss Widen Despite $211 Million in Cash?
Hycroft Mining (NASDAQ:HYMC) reported third-quarter 2026 results on Tuesday, October 27, with a net loss of $26.1 million, or $0.28 per share, compared with $9.4 million, or $0.22, a year earlier. The screened estimate was a loss of $0.22 per share, and the company's GAAP loss was $0.28.
Unrestricted cash was $211.2 million at September 30, up from $181.7 million at the end of 2025, and the company has no debt. Management said the balance positions it to fund exploration, technical studies and project advancement.
Hycroft owns a Nevada gold and silver project with a history of heap leach operations and is moving toward processing sulfide mineralization. The release gave no guidance.
Hycroft Costs: What Drove the Jump in Expenses?
Loss from operations was $28.2 million versus $7.3 million. General and administrative expense was $16.7 million versus $2.6 million, and exploration and development was $8.3 million versus $4.0 million. Mine site costs were $3.9 million versus $2.5 million.
The increase reflects about $45.0 million of make-whole awards in 2026, of which $36.4 million was non-cash, plus a one-time $4.5 million cash bonus. Stock-based compensation was $45.0 million versus $1.5 million.
Interest expense was nil versus $3.6 million a year earlier, because all debt was repaid in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Hycroft Exploration: What Do Brimstone and Vortex Drilling Show?
About 18,700 meters have been drilled since the 2025-2026 exploration program began. Management said results show high-grade growth at Brimstone and Vortex, two silver systems that remain open in all directions and at depth, and drilling will continue.
A conceptual design for an underground mine and processing facility, prepared with outside engineering firms, is substantially complete and will feed 2027 project optimization. A study comparing roasting with pressure oxidation is being finalised in the fourth quarter, with results expected in the first quarter of 2027. Heap leach metallurgical test work is under way and expected to finish in the first half of 2027.
Hycroft Funding and Management: What Changed on the Balance Sheet?
Net cash used in operations was $51.7 million over nine months versus $22.2 million, and financing provided $74.0 million. Working capital was about $200.7 million, and equity was $237.6 million.
A 1.5% net smelter returns royalty was granted for $30.0 million in cash. Leadership changes included a new chief operating officer and four new independent directors, and the chief financial officer will move to a strategic advisor role on March 16, 2027, with a search under way.
What to Watch Next at Hycroft After the Loss?
The roasting versus pressure oxidation study due in the first quarter of 2027, further drill results and heap leach test work in the first half are the key milestones. Investors will also watch spending levels against the cash balance and the pending warrantholder and class actions, for which no loss has been accrued.
