Segment Results: Why Did Electrical Solutions Outgrow Utility Solutions?

Electrical Solutions sales rose 51% to $845 million, with organic growth of 22% and acquisitions adding 29%. Its adjusted operating margin expanded to 24.8% from 20.8%, though the GAAP margin of 19.8% was roughly flat. The chief executive attributed the result to strong data center demand, content gains and capacity investments, and said the integration of the NSI acquisition is ahead of initial expectations.

Utility Solutions sales rose 9% to $1,028 million, with organic growth of about 5%. Grid Infrastructure grew about 13% while Grid Automation fell about 4%. The adjusted operating margin was 26.0%, up from 25.7%, and the GAAP margin was 23.5%.

Management said distribution, transmission and substation demand supported the utility business.

Margins and Guidance: What Drove 160 Basis Points of Expansion and the Raise?

Adjusted operating income was $476.8 million at a 25.5% margin versus 23.9% a year earlier, while the GAAP operating margin slipped 20 basis points to 21.8%. Adjusted EBITDA rose 32% to $506.9 million from $383.1 million. Management credited volume, acquisitions, price and productivity, plus a net tariff benefit, partly offset by cost inflation and raw materials.

Operating cash flow was $323 million, up from $284 million, and free cash flow was $280 million versus $254 million. For nine months, free cash flow was $539.2 million, and Hubbell repurchased $203.5 million of stock and paid $225.4 million in dividends.

Acquisition spending reached $3,005.7 million over nine months. Net debt stood at $4,664.7 million, and net debt to total capital rose to 51% from 28% at the end of 2025.

Total sales growth is now guided at 18% to 19%, including 10% to 11% organic, up from 16% to 18% and 9% to 11% in July. GAAP diluted EPS is guided at $17.30 to $17.50, and the adjusted tax rate at 22.0% to 22.5%. Free cash flow conversion is expected near 90% of adjusted net income.

Management said the raise is driven mainly by stronger anticipated Electrical Solutions growth. It said orders and end-market demand stayed strong and kept lifting backlog in the quarter, though the release gave no numeric backlog figure.

Subtracting nine-month adjusted EPS of $15.37 from the full-year range implies fourth-quarter adjusted EPS of about $5.03 to $5.23, a calculated figure rather than a stated guide.
