Eos Energy Stock: Why Is the Shorted Battery Maker Slipping Despite a Record Quarter?
Eos Energy Enterprises (NASDAQ:EOSE) shares are trading 0.82% lower at $1.80 on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, in a session without a new company release. The most recent update, on October 19, gave preliminary third-quarter figures for the period ended September 30, 2026, and full results are due before the market opens on November 5.
Eos, based in Pittsburgh, makes zinc-based battery energy storage systems for utility-scale, microgrid and commercial and industrial customers.
Preliminary revenue was $82 million to $83 million, up about 19% to 21% from the second quarter and about 169% to 172% from a year earlier. The figures remain subject to closing procedures.
Eos Margins and Cash: How Far Is Gross Profit From Break-Even?
GAAP gross margin was negative 55% to negative 53%, an improvement of about 16 to 18 percentage points from the second quarter and the eighth straight quarter of better margins. Management expects further gains from volume, utilization and material costs.
Total cash, including restricted cash, was about $344 million at September 30, down from about $364 million at June 30. Operating cash inflows were about $114 million, while capital spending was about $35 million, mostly to finish automation on the second production line.
The second line, at Thorn Hill, supplied about 17% of production in the quarter. An $87 million advance on the Department of Energy loan was received on September 14, bringing the total drawn to $178 million.
Eos Order Book: Does a $765 Million Backlog Support the Revenue Outlook?
Backlog was about $765 million, or roughly 3.2 GWh, with six orders from six customers in the quarter, including a previously announced $100 million order under an existing capacity reservation agreement. Full-year 2026 revenue is expected in the lower half of the $300 million to $350 million range.
Projects include a clean energy installation in West Virginia announced September 2 with MN8 Energy and Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL).
Trailing twelve-month revenue was $214.25 million, the net loss about $1.02 billion and total debt $640.83 million, with a market capitalization near $595 million on October 26. The 52-week range was $1.59 to $19.86.
Eos Short Interest: What Could 37.68% of Float Mean for Volatility?
Short-interest data for the settlement date of September 30, 2026 showed 134,847,658 shares sold short, or 37.68% of float, with 4.7 days to cover. That was up about 12.4% from 120,015,346 shares on September 15. A position this large can fuel sharp rallies if sellers cover, and does not by itself indicate direction.
What to Watch Next: Full Third-Quarter Report on November 5
The full third-quarter report and conference call arrive on November 5, 2026. Investors will compare final numbers with the preliminary range and watch gross margin, backlog conversion and the final Thorn Hill shift planned for the fourth quarter.
