Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE:ACHR) has completed a significant phase of its international flight testing, successfully demonstrating its Midnight electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft in the United Arab Emirates. Conducted under the company’s Launch Edition program, the campaign covered the full eVTOL flight envelope, including vertical lift, transition, and wingborne cruise. The tests were carried out at Al Ain Airport and surrounding desert areas to validate performance in the UAE’s unique climate and operating conditions.

Archer noted that Midnight delivered as expected in challenging weather environments, including heat and sand, further reinforcing its suitability for commercial deployment in the region. The testing aligns closely with Abu Dhabi’s broader Advanced Air Mobility strategy, overseen by the Integrated Transport Centre.

Regulatory, Training, and Commercial Pathways Advance

As part of this progress, Archer has begun receiving payments from Abu Dhabi Aviation under their definitive agreement connected to the Launch Edition program. This milestone underscores the deepening partnership between Archer and key UAE aviationstakeholdersas they prepare for early commercial operations.

Regulatory alignment also accelerated, with the General Civil Aviation Authority completing another week-long working session at Archer’s U.S. headquarters in October. These engagements support the aircraft’s certification pathway in the Emirates.

In parallel, Archer’s airline team is collaborating with Etihad Aviation Training to advance pilot training frameworks. The goal is to mature operational readiness ahead of fleet deployment, ensuring pilots, procedures, and maintenance operations are well prepared for commercial service.

Momentum Builds as Abu Dhabi Targets Emirate-Wide Air Taxi Network

Archer’s achievements are taking place against the backdrop of Abu Dhabi’s recent announcement of plans to build an air taxi network featuring more than 10 vertiport locations. The initiative reflects the emirate’s commitment to enabling next-generation air mobility and positioning itself as a global hub for eVTOL operations.

With in-country testing to complete, Archer will move into the next phase of its Launch Edition program. This will include recruiting and training local pilots with Etihad Aviation Training, advancing certification with the GCAA, conducting additional test operations with Abu Dhabi Aviation, and preparing for initial commercial activity supported by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office.

Conclusion

Archer’s successful UAE flight test campaign marks a meaningful step toward commercial eVTOL operations in Abu Dhabi. With regulatory cooperation advancing, pilot-training partnerships underway, and the emirate’s infrastructure plans accelerating, Archer is progressing toward introducing Midnight as part of the region’s emerging air taxi ecosystem.
