On December 01, 2025, Allegiant (NASDAQ:ALGT) drew attention with the unveiling of Altus Sol, a custom-developed wine crafted with Napa-based Sonoma Bespoke. The company said the release forms part of an effort to enhance the inflight experience. Allegiant noted that it is the first airline to introduce a wine created from the ground up specifically for use on board.
Addressing High-Altitude Sensory Changes
Allegiant highlighted that standard cabin pressure and dry air at 30,000 feet can reduce sweetness and mute aromas. Dr. Robert Pellegrino of the Monell Chemical Senses Center has noted that these conditions impact how flavours are perceived. The airline said Sonoma Bespoke developed Altus Sol to counter these effects, ensuring the wine maintains taste characteristics both on the ground and in the air.
Two Wines Developed Through Joint Testing Flights
To refine the blend, Allegiant and Sonoma Bespoke conducted tasting sessions during a dedicated flight. The collaboration produced two wines. The first is a Cabernet Sauvignon featuring cigar-box aroma notes. The second is a Pinot Grigio described as crisp and fruit-forward. Both wines received early reviews. Wine critic Jonathan Cristaldi rated the Cabernet at 93 and the Pinot Grigio at 92.
Management Remarks and Winemaker Collaboration
In its announcement, Allegiant shared a comment from Chief Commercial Officer Drew Wells, who said, “We're always looking for ways to make leisure travel more memorable. Altus Sol is designed to add a special touch to the journey and set the tone for a great vacation.”
Sonoma Bespoke Chairman Donny Sebastiani added that the team selected grape lots “perfumy and aromatic” with natural sweetness to balance altitude-related sensory changes. He said the project marked a first-of-its-kind collaboration for the winery.
Branding and Bottle Design
The bottle, sized at 187mL, was designed to reflect Allegiant’s brand identity. Altus Sol translates from Latin as “high sun,” a reference to the airline’s sunburst tail logo and the golden light seen from aircraft windows. Allegiant said the Cabernet label uses a navy theme, while the Pinot Grigio incorporates a parchment tone representing the transition from day to night.
ALGT closed at USD 77.49 on December 02, 2025.
