Ally Financial (NYSE:ALLY): Reported Q3 on October 20
The headline numbers matched expectations: adjusted EPS of USD 1.34 versus USD 1.33 and revenue about 1.3% ahead. The weak spot was tangible book value per share of USD 41, flat on the year and well below the USD 43.75 estimate, which investors use to judge capital strength. The shares were roughly unchanged at USD 37.58 right after the release. Net interest margin of 3.6% matched estimates, so the result avoided a miss but did not give a clear reason to re-rate the stock. Investors also look at the efficiency ratio and capital build, and management's commentary on the 9:00 a.m. ET call on October 20, 2026 will indicate whether the book value gap is temporary. Revenue growth of 8.1% shows originations are still feeding income. Before the report the stock was down about 17.7% year to date, and analysts had made 13 downward revisions to third quarter EPS estimates in 30 days. Wells Fargo pointed to margin pressure from Stellantis, higher provisions, vehicle lease losses and funding costs as the Federal Reserve raised rates in September 2026. The second quarter had also been a one-cent miss, with adjusted EPS of USD 1.21 against USD 1.22, though originations rose 21% to USD 13.3 billion. The stock also trades below the USD 47.29 high of its 52-week range, which the quote is about 20% below (own arithmetic), so expectations were already reset ahead of the report. A pause in selling would need evidence that provisions are stable. Full-year retail auto net charge-offs are guided to 1.8% to 2.0%, and second quarter charge-offs of 1.57% sat below that range, with delinquencies improving year over year for five straight quarters and 47% of originations from the top credit tier.
Blackstone Secured Lending Fund (NYSE:BXSL): Near 8% Below Net Asset Value
No company release dated October 19, 2026 explains the 1.51% decline. The pressure is sector-wide. PIMCO noted on October 13, 2026 that listed business development companies trade at about 0.7 times reported book value, and that valuation gaps of about 6 points on the same loans make marks hard to trust. Withdrawal requests at private credit vehicles have been high, including about 10% of Blackstone's flagship non-traded fund in the third quarter and 39% of a USD 5 billion Blue Owl technology credit fund. Seven of ten non-traded lenders tracked by one monitor had prorated their latest buyback offers, paying out between 13% and 48% of requests. Blackstone Secured Lending Fund (NYSE:BXSL) lends mainly to large private companies through first-lien senior secured loans, and most are floating rate, so income rises when benchmark rates rise. The weighted average yield on debt investments was 9.40% on June 30, 2026. Net investment income covered the USD 0.77 dividend narrowly at USD 0.75, and leverage was 1.25 times net of cash. The board approved a buyback of up to USD 250 million below net asset value, but it had not been used. The fund is externally managed by Blackstone, and its fee structure is described by management as aligned with shareholders.
Fidelity National Financial (NYSE:FNF): Truist Cut Its Target
Title insurers earn fees when homes change hands or loans are refinanced, so order counts follow mortgage rates. With the 30-year rate at 7.40% according to Freddie Mac and 7.442% on Zillow data for October 19, 2026, pending home sales are at their lowest since 2014 outside 2020, and 14.5% of deals fell through in September. Fidelity National Financial (NYSE:FNF) and peers traded lower on September 30, 2026. No company release dated October 19, 2026 explains the latest 0.77% decline. Builders are cutting prices to move homes: 43% did so in October 2026, the highest share in the 2020 to 2026 period, according to the NAHB, and mortgage purchase applications fell for a sixth straight week in the week ended October 9, 2026. Fidelity National Financial (NYSE:FNF) runs a title segment of about USD 9.0 billion of revenue and owns most of F&G Annuities & Life, a retail annuity and life insurer of roughly USD 6.1 billion. Higher rates cut title volumes but lift investment income on annuity assets, which is the offset the company relies on. On about October 11, 2026 its LoanCare unit launched IllumineX, an AI-driven servicing platform. Truist applies an 11 times forward earnings multiple, saying purchase activity is at a multi-decade low. Operating leverage works both ways in title insurance, because staffing and office costs are largely fixed, so a fall in orders compresses margins while a rebound would lift them faster than revenue.
Where Things Stand

Blackstone Secured Lending trades at a discount to book as private credit redemptions rise across the sector. Fidelity National depends on mortgage volume.
