Sharp Slide Arrives With No Fresh Company Announcement
Cypherpunk Technologies (NASDAQ:CYPH) shares are trading down 15.56% today at $2.80, placing the stock in Penny Stock territory. No company-specific announcement was identified that explains the move, so investors are left to weigh the most recent quarterly update and the company's heavy exposure to the ZCash token.
Cypherpunk, formerly known as Leap Therapeutics, describes itself as a privacy company. Its two main strategies are accumulating the privacy-focused token ZEC and investing in or building tools that protect privacy online.
Shares of companies that hold a single token often move with that token's price as well as with their own filings. Without a verified ZEC quote for today, however, the link between this decline and the token cannot be confirmed.
323,394 ZEC Treasury Ties Cypherpunk Shares to Zcash Pricing
As of August 11, 2026, the company held 323,394.38 ZEC, bought at an average price of $341.83 per token. That stake represents roughly 1.92% of Zcash's circulating supply. The holdings were valued at $129.4 million using the June 30 ZEC price of $400.09.
Because the treasury is marked to market, swings in the token's price flow directly into reported results. In the second quarter, ZEC rose from $243.35 to $400.09, producing a $46.0 million unrealized gain.
The treasury has grown steadily. Holdings stood at 290,062.67 ZEC at the end of December 2025 and 314,185.70 ZEC by mid-May 2026, when the average purchase price was $337.86. In the second quarter the company also named a Zcash network development advisor and received strong Shareholder support for its annual meeting proposals.
Second-Quarter Profit Rests on an Unrealized Token Gain
Cypherpunk reported second-quarter net income of $39.4 million, or $0.18 per diluted share, versus a net loss of $16.6 million a year earlier. For the first six months of 2026, the company still posted a net loss of $37.8 million. Research and Development spending fell to $0.2 million from $10.5 million, while general and administrative costs rose to $4.5 million from $1.8 million. Total operating expenses were $4.7 million, down from $16.9 million, mainly on lower research costs.
Cash and equivalents were $7.6 million at June 30, compared with $14.0 million at the end of 2025. Common shares outstanding rose to 107,764,382 from 83,851,051 over the same period. The reported weighted-average share count for the quarter, about 184.3 million, exceeds the period-end figure and may reflect a reporting inconsistency.
Leap Therapeutics Phase 3 Plan and Strategic Process Still in Focus
Through its Leap Therapeutics subsidiary, the company is developing cancer therapies, led by sirexatamab. Leap reached FDA alignment on a randomized Phase 3 study of about 270 patients with DKK1-high, second-line metastatic colorectal cancer, where objective response rate could support accelerated approval. The FDA granted Fast Track Designation in May 2026.
The earlier Phase 2 DeFianCe study missed its primary endpoint in the intent-to-treat population, and the DKK1 subgroup findings are exploratory. Leap has also started a strategic process with no set timetable. Next updates to watch include the company's next quarterly report, any change in ZEC holdings, and news from the strategic process.
