Cipher (NASDAQ:CIFR), listed by market data as Cipher Digital, moved lower on Friday, October 30, 2026, as crypto stocks sold off after Binance reported a record hack. The shares fell in premarket trading and were still down later in the session, according to market data ticker data. No company-specific news was found; the stock moved with the crypto group.
Cipher, a Russell 2000 member, operates Bitcoin Mining sites in Texas and has been developing data-center capacity for high-performance computing. Its shares, like those of other miners, tend to track the price of bitcoin closely.
The Binance hack
Binance disclosed a breach on Thursday evening, and on Friday it confirmed that about $6.3 billion had been stolen, which would make it the largest crypto theft on record. TRM Labs and Elliptic tied the attack to North Korea. Market reports said that Binance blamed a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop.
The exchange said it would absorb the losses. "We are committed to covering all hacked losses through our company funds," co-CEO Richard Teng said. About $3 billion was reportedly frozen, and market reports said that withdrawals were to resume by Sunday. Circle, the Stablecoin issuer, was among the parties that helped freeze stolen funds.
The episode also produced a public exchange between Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao and Elon Musk. "Elon, have a lot of respect for you, but bad time to troll. Please stop," Zhao wrote, according to market data.
Bitcoin and crypto stocks fall
Bitcoin dropped to a six-week low, trading around $76,700 to $77,600, after sitting near $86,000 earlier in October. Ether traded around $2,237. A digital-assets research head said, "I suspect the negative price action still has some way to go,"
Cipher's decline was milder than some peers', according to the later ticker readings, but it was part of a broad retreat. Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT), Hut 8 (NASDAQ:HUT), MARA Holdings, CleanSpark and IREN all fell. Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) dropped after quarterly Revenue missed estimates, while Strategy, Robinhood (NASDAQ:HOOD), Galaxy Digital and Circle also slid.
A risk-off Friday
The broader market had its worst session since June. The S&P 500 lost 140.32 points to 7,580.07, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 572.25 points to 51,770.31 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 747.73 points to 25,437.00, its worst day since June 5. The Russell 2000 declined 47.37 points to 2,811.84.
Technology took the heaviest losses after Intel (NASDAQ:INTC)'s weak outlook and cash-burn warning, while Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s negative trailing free Cash Flow raised fresh doubts about AI spending. That backdrop matters for Cipher, which has positioned some of its capacity for computing customers. Investors moved into energy, consumer staples, utilities and health care instead.
What to watch
Bitcoin's direction will likely remain the biggest influence on Cipher's shares. Investors will watch whether Binance restores withdrawals by Sunday and whether more stolen funds are frozen or recovered.
They will also watch the Federal Reserve, after three officials said Friday that rates need to be higher, and the AI-infrastructure trade, which could affect Demand for data-center capacity. The midterm elections on Tuesday, November 3, and the October jobs report on Friday, November 6, could also shift appetite for risk assets. Until the company issues news of its own, its shares are likely to keep moving in step with bitcoin and the other miners.
